WDRC in 8th place

Looks like DRC is in last place again

I'm not a fan of "The Whale" I would have liked to see them do something different with that signal. Maybe try a mainstream rock, something to against YZ, or (yes) go after baby boomers and bring back the Big D

That said, as a program director, be aware the 6+ numbers don't tell the story at all. You can't judge how well a station is doing based on 6+ numbers.

The common misconception is that the Whale is redundant because WAQY and WPLR can be heard in most of the Hartford market. But they are Springfield and New Haven stations, respectively, and are not actively seeking Hartford listeners. Most of the advertising on both is from their home markets. Therefore, Whale fills a format hole -- IN HARTFORD -- for classic rock, and the ratings show it, as WAQY and WPLR barely show up in Hartford. It would make no sense to drop classic rock for mainstream (active?) rock, which WCCC couldn't make work; country, in which it would be a weak second to WWYZ; or oldies, which would bring back the advertiser-unwanted female and over-55 listeners that Connoisseur has worked so hard to drive off after buying out Buckley. I loved the Big D, too, but I have to admit that Whale is a well-executed classic rock format and I'd imagine it's doing quite well in male 35-54, its demographic bulls-eye.
