Radio News??

Aside from a few FM translators and KBXD signing back on there isn't much going on in the big D. I'm a bit curious what the plans are for 1160 now that the format moved to 620.
 
I expected 1160 to be the main frequency for The Word and for Salem to put new programming on 100.7. But so far, it appears I was wrong.

It seems we have a LOT of new translators and LPFMs in the market. I wish I had time to compile a list and cross reference them. (Being able to understand more Spanish would help, too.)

What format will they put on 100.7?
 
I kinda hoped for a temporary return of Magic 1160 until they found someone else to lease out the station. Heck with KKDA 730 gone it might've actually stood a chance.
 
Salem has operational rights to 1160 but doesn't own it. The Word on 1160 is nothing but a place-holder format due to the LMA. I recently read an online article about Salem and their religious programming generates substantial revenue.
 
Salem has historically had 3 primary formats. Christian Teaching and Talk, Contemporary Christian Music (CCM), and Conservative News/Talk. The Teaching and Talk is their oldest format and what the company was really built on top of. Recently they have also added a number of Business Talk stations and in some markets, Spanish-language Christian Teaching and Talk. In places like Honolulu and Greenville, they do operate a few music stations outside of CCM, but those are the exception and the reasons for that are market-specific.

The Word is a rimshot for sure, but it covers the most desirable suburbs for that format pretty well. 1160 is a rough signal and MIA in most of the Metroplex after sunset. AM is on shaky ground going forward in general, so it is very doubtful Salem would swap their core format to 1160 or any AM station apart from maybe 820 (or 570?).

Interestingly, KLTY used to be on 100.7 (and before that it was on 94.1) when it was owned by Sunburst. Salem launch The Word on 94.9 after buying it from Infinity and later they swapped the two stations when KLTY was acquired.

Exactly the same as liberal-leaning programs. They are Talk, not News/Talk.

It's a fair point, but you are over-thinking it. News/Talk as a radio format is almost entirely talk with a small amount of news. Sometimes those news blocks are in AM and PM drive, but most of the time it is just at the top-of-the-hour. "Talk" was thought to have negative connotations, so most talk radio stations are branded as "NewsTalk" or even "NewsRadio" even though they are overwhelmingly not news. I didn't make up the name and it is what it is... and also widely accepted.

Salem's Conservative News Talk stations all feature SRN talk hosts that are right-of-center and are primarily politics focused (some regular segments on Prager and Medved notwithstanding). On the other hand, I don't find that the top-of-the-hour news on Salem's News Talk stations to be substantially most conservative than any of the other news talk stations or national news services.

Don't think too hard, its called News Talk because they talk about NEWS related subjects. Just like sports talk typically talks sports...
