AM revitalization and Columbus, OH

There was two apps in Columbus to obtain translators for AM's.

iHeart asked to move a translator to 105.3 for WYTS AM 1230. W287CP’s request to move to Columbus on 105.3 MHz by iHeart shows granted as of 2/16/16. http://fccdata.org/?facid=140069

The request to move http://fccdata.org/?facid=152209 W283CL from KY to Columbus, OH to be a translator for WRFD AM 880 on 104.5 Mhz has been approved as of 2/22/16. The approval of transfer from SPRYEX to Salem is still pending.

Would a 104.5 translator mean that WRFD will now be heard at all hours and not just during the day? Would seem like the perfect opportunity for that to be the case.
Color me shocked that WTVN still is not simulcast on FM yet. Maybe the merry-go-round of formats on 106.7 will lead to this one soon.

Isn't WTVN on an HD-2? I know it's not a regular FM but it's something.

Here in Dallas, the big talker WBAP (owned by Cumulus) tried an FM simulcast but it got relegated to an HD-2 itself. I think the reason it didn't work was because the FM it was paired with was a rimshot with a stick well north of Dallas.

Yes, it is on the HD2 feed of WODC. That's totally off my radar so didn't even think of it, but I did mean a main channel. Still think it will happen at some point.

WRFD's web programming runs 24 hours, that would be easy enough to run on the HD2/Translator

True. I just wasn't sure if there was a rule as to if the AM signal the FM is translating isn't on the air, whether the FM couldn't carry on on its own.
I do know that in Lancaster, even though WLOH-AM has an FM signal in Lancaster and an FM (translator?) in Logan, they never seem to split the signals even though they probably could for overlap programming.

I could see TVN going to 105.7 at some point maybe. I do not see them messing with 106.7 as it's seeing some success and putting a dent in Radio One's WCKX here in Columbus.

Yes the translator would be 24/7. If I am not mistaken that means they can feed it via an HD-2 of 98.9 or if I understand things right FCC rules they could actually feed the translator via another off air method. WRFD for years has done programming 24/7 online (repeating the day time schedule) but with a 24/7 license I could see them putting more effort into the hours out side of AM 880's operation.
