Quick check on Wikipedia, and it claims TV1 was the only channel in Denmark until the late 80s. Is that true? And how well could you get neighboring countries channels in Denmark?

I don't know, but I can well believe it. The 4 channels we had in the UK at this point was actually quite high by European standards. Ireland only had 2 channels until the 1990s. and I believe Norway only had a single channel for a lot of years.

As for getting other countries channels, I would certainly expect a lot of the country could get either German or Swedish TV, although \I seem to recall Sweden was another place where TV choice was pretty dire well into the 90s.
