Found out that both Charlie Steele at WQMF and Chris Randolph at WAMZ were let go today by iHeartRadio .Both are great radio guys and I wish them good luck in the future.

Those talents are a normal expense of running some very, very profitable radio stations.

iHeart's issues are not the stations. The issue is paying down the debt that the recession left them with. Revenue for the whole industry is off vs. 2005 dollars, and the profits don't pay the debts.

I read about 6 people were let go, but not sure if it was sales people or not. Haven't heard any other missing voices either.

From @Louradioandtv on Twitter: wqmf and wtfx pd Charlie Steele. Wamz and mix Lexington morning man / premium choice weekend jock Chris Randolph, plus now we know about Chris.

Also they let go production man chris dont know his last name. He hosted the now defunct alternative music show on the fox detour. Its like secret carpet bombings hit iheart louisville.

That would be Chris Allman. Very good production guy who was with 100.5 the Fox when it was at 558 4th Avenue and has been at CC/ iHeart since they bought the Fox 20 years ago.

I heard from another radio friend they let an engineer go as well. If it's who I think it is- another great guy who has been there about 20 years.

Greg its really sad to see what has happened to qmf n the fox over the years. Both of them are mere shells of what they once were. Premium choice needs to go away there part of the reason.

I wouldn't be surprised to see QMF add some new rock to the rotation and the FOX change formats completely. From what I understand, Charlie fought tooth and nail to keep the WTFX format alive. Since SFR beats QMF in the ratings on a regular basis, will Iheartless Media try something different?

In a surprise move, it looks like they hired someone to take Charlie's duties. That's surprising since I thought their goal was to reduce head count.

I'll stream some of those stations to hear how they sound. Wonder what kind of changes he will make. I Heart must have something up their sleeve, they wouldn't make a move like that without planning some changes in those stations' sound.

Just go ahead iheartless blow up the fox for all practical purposes they've been dead for a while

Isn't this pretty much every one of their stations in Louisville? The only thing keeping the ones that do well in the ratings as they are is that people have been listening to them for years, they wouldn't survive on their own without their "heritage."

Heritage? The Fox will turn 23 this June and QMF is over 30. I think they qualify as heritage stations. The Fox pulled a 2.5 12+ for the winter book on that pea shooter of a signal they have. Whereas, whatever it is they are doing on 100.5 got a 2.1, I think. Which was actually an improvement for them. What's their signal strength, 36,000? Nothing against Tony, but I don't see him caring as much about those 2 stations as Charlie did. And if I were going into a rock war, I would want Charlie on my side. Very few work harder than he does/did. I wish there was a way that all of us old fox jocks could go on the air together one last time to say goodbye and then shut the thing down, lol. Like that reunion they did on 1080 back in the early 90's before they went religious. That was some good radio.

I wish there was too, Craven. You, Buzz, Zack, Black Frank, Buck Naked. What a going away show that would be.

I have noticed several different songs being played on QMF in the last few weeks. INXS "Need You Tonight", Modern English "I Melt With You", Blondie's "Call Me", RHCP "Give It Away" (the most surprising to me), 3 Doors Down "Superman", The Fixx, The Outfield. With the exception of Give it Away and Superman, these are songs QMF has played in the past but dropped as the Classic Rock Format kept tightening. I have found myself listening to it a lot more lately. I hope they keep adding more "lost" songs and more recent Rock songs. After 20 years it is time for Classic Rock to change or die.
