Prince and Bay Area Radio

Wow but KFOG according to some members supposedly handled Prince death very well. Unfortunately we can say anything about KISQ but we can't say that anymore because they flipped formats so soon.

I don't know about KOSF since they are the remaining oldies station they could fill in with how they covered the death of Prince

I think KFOG did handle the death the best. Big 103.7 played all prince at noon, Q102 and KMEL both had Prince tribute mixes at noon. Live 105, KOIT, KBAY, Alice 97.3, KBLX all sprinkled prince songs in their formats.

It would be nice if all the radio stations will release those songs

Legally radio can't play unlicensed music. So the songs have to be officially published, and someone has to license them for airplay. If he has a label, they can license. If not, the estate. Songs have been discovered by lots of folks who've died, and if provisions aren't made in some legal document, ownership can drag on for a while.

The radio stations don't have access to that music. It's not up to them to decide whether or not it can be played
