How many stations have gone all-Prince?

Unless you've been under a rock, you know by now that Prince passed away at age 57. Many stations are paying their tributes to him. Mix 96.5 in Houston is currently all-Prince.

Jon Ellis' Northpine.com blog entry today is about the reaction in Twin Cities radio. It's a sad day in Chanhassen. My wife lived in Minneapolis and remembered seeing Prince at First Avenue in 1981, before he hit big.

Seattle's Hot 103.7 is going all Prince for the day, as is 99.3 in Yakima (eastern Washington State). They are both classic hip hop/R&B.

HOT 93.7 in Hartford, CT the market's Hip-Hop station went all Prince. Their two sister stations LITE 100.5 WRCH and 96.5 TIC also mixed in Prince Music. There is no R&B Oldies or Urban AC station in the market.

Classic Hits KOOL 96.1/104.3 mentioned Prince's passing on their Facebook Page, but they did not play any of his music. I don't think they play any of his music anyway even after they added 80s Music to the mix in January (when they were still only on AM).

NEWS 8 WTNH interviewed Adam Rivers PD at I-Heart's CHR KC 101.3 in New Haven.

In Tampa, 93.3 FLZ, WiLD 94.1, and HOT 101.5 aired remixes of Prince songs and played the songs normally from time to time, including the Nielsen rated #1 station in Tampa, yep, WDUV-FM, which is a soft rock station (no remixes, of course). As for Mix 100.7 WMTX-FM, they went all-Prince, which started at 7PM EDT. Maybe Magic 94.9 WWRM-FM did go all-Prince as well, but now they are doing it every hour, at the bottom of the hour or about :30.

According to Mediabase, these are the stations that played the most Prince titles on Thursday and Friday. It's safe to say with the number of spins that these stations all were all-Prince during the period.

1. XHRM/San Diego - 368 plays
2. WDKX/Rochester - 333
3. WRWM/Indy - 324
4. KJLH/LA - 316
5. WOSL/Cincy - 277
6. KMJQ/Houston - 272
7. KMGV/Fresno - 268
8. WTLC/Indy - 238
9. WKTU/NYC - 225
10. KTWN/Minneapolis - 219

KCMP/Minneapolis was 18th in total plays. KMOJ/Minneapolis is not monitored so does not show up.

KJLH LA. Radio Free Compton.

Rare that I see those call letters mentioned on this board. The station is owned by Taxi Productions, owned by Steveland Morris. You know him as Stevie Wonder.

That makes me wonder how many other musicians own radio stations. I've heard of other musicians working in radio but this is the first time I've heard of him owning one. It kind of makes sense that if one's passion is music, that they might want to get into owning a radio station.

I can't think of any Prince song that would even fit WDUV's format. Nothing he did is "soft" rock.

Several of his songs might fit a classic rock format. Did any rock stations of any description play any of his music?

A week after the passing of Prince, looks like it's back to the same, usual rotated titles:

Little Red Corvette
1999
Kiss
Raspberry Beret
Purple Rain
When Doves Cry
I Would Die 4 U
I Wanna Be Your Lover

Some stations have added Cream and Sign 'O' The Times and U Got The Look.
