Weekend Changes at KTVK

At the end of the Sunday GMAZ newscast, it was announced that Jared Dillingham would be moving to weekend evenings. On his FB page, Jared confirmed that Lina De Florias would be moving to weekend GMAZ.

I was just beginning to get used to Jared and Jaime on weekend GMAZ. I'm a bit surprised at this development. Any thoughts?

Watching GMAZ this morning. Jason Volentine is subbing for Jamie Cerreta. And Katie Baker(!) is on for Kim Quintero.

I'm also surprised with the Jared/Lina swap. I thought Jared and Jaime were developing as a great news team. I liked how Jared would go out in the garden and help Dave Owens during the garden segments.

Lina is great. She always greets the viewers and has a lot of energy.

I'm watching this morning, too. Initially, I thought they had made even MORE changes :)

Perhaps the Jared/Lina switch has more to do with management thinking that they need a backup to Brandon Lee in the evenings. Jared was subbing for Brandon last night. As we know, male anchors are always in short supply at 3TV :)

Speaking of Jonathon Lowe...

He does a lot of double duty between 3TV and CBS5. Today (4/24/16) he was on KTVK's 5:00PM news reporting on the huge apartment fire in Gilbert. He's wearing a 3TV red shirt. On KPHO at 5:30, he files almost the exact same report but this time he's wearing a blue CBS5 shirt.

I appreciate the effort.

I would like to get GMAZ 3TV:

to cut down on the number of Weather segments.

to quit over stressing Weather statistics ( redundantly repeating 81 degrees in Ahwatukee, 79 degrees in Mesa ) Just let us see the cities & we can pick out our favorites. It's not like much difference is noticed at 105 degrees!!

NEWS journalism would be better served if the Arizonawide news happenings were covered during fewer Weather breaks.
Just sayin' - - -

GMAZ does two weather per half hour. One is a very quick one (usually a minute or so). The second is the "full" forecast (which can be 2 to 2.5 minutes). On a morning newscast which many people only watch for a few minutes, I don't feel that this is excessive.

I do agree with reading all the valley temperatures...I would rather have a national weather map with temperatures in major cities across the country.

In the past, some people on this board have complained that the traffic coverage is not enough. How are people feeling about that?

GMAZ redundant weather

Maybe we shouldn't rationalize lots of redundant weather (seems more frequent than formeraa mentioned) for the morning commuters? Numerous people work alternative shifts and leave the news on while also checking FaceBook, e-mail etc. Retirees would be watching while preparing breakfast and so forth.

GMAZ producers might ask for opinions after doing more in depth hard news instead of superfluous weather.

I only watch GMAZ, once in a while CBS5. I think Gina Maravilla does a great job. When referencing ADOT cameras, she could explain which way the camera is facing or which way the cars are headed. Example is "the headlights are going east."

Now that my commute takes me from the West Valley into South Scottsdale, I watch traffic reports more closely. I've tweeted Gina traffic updates and she responds. If I have a nice interaction with a business, I become a repeat customer and praise them to my friends.

How is 3 minutes per half hour "a lot of redundant weather"? I agreed with you that reading temps from every city in the Valley is unnecessary and perhaps April should show a national weather map.

I happen to think that GMAZ does a great job. I indeed look forward to watching them every morning and like their format. I've tried to watch Fox 10 and have never been able to figure out when they do traffic and weather. It seems rather random over there. GMAZ is predictable and I personally like that.

And I'm pretty sure that 3TV has done surveys/market research on their newscasts. I've been called in the past and asked specifically about GMAZ.
