Changes coming to 93.1 & 95.7 ?

I've long assumed that the Alt branding would come to Louisville and it looks like it may be from this (although remember, this doesn't necessarily mean anything... remember that new hip hop format that was coming to 103.9?). What does surprise me, though, is that I long thought it would be some neglected translator format feeding off of an HD2. They've also registered alt931.com recently too.

The thing is, though, there are very different (yet identical looking branding, often with the same on-air talent) Alt FMs from iHeartMedia out there. Tacoma seems to be more of a cross between Gen-X Radio and the late 90s WLRS from 102.3 (most recent artists on their playlist are Green Day, Faith No More, Weezer, Staind, Papa Roach, and Foo Fighters). Then there is the Alt FM in LA which is much, much better and fills a void that is hardly ever heard on radio (looking at the LA one, their most recent artists on the playlist include The Temper Trap, Twenty One Pilots, Cold War Kids, Muse, Foo Fighters, and Radiohead). Then there is an Alt FM in Davenport, IA with their Panic at the Disco, Coldplay, Evanescence, and Weezer. Then there is Alt 103.3 in Indianapolis that looks and feels like none of those and has a completely different logo, but kind of combines a little of everything (Lumineers, Weezer, Lorde, and Candlebox back-to-back on one station). I could go on all day, but the branding is so inconsistent it seems.

Who knows which direction 93.1 will go if they are switching, but I'm willing to bet that it won't be the good one (Los Angeles). I could settle for one like the Indianapolis or Davenport one, though, but the Tacoma one just feels like something that is 15 years too late... which is basically what the problem is with The Fox already.

I think something is up, although who knows what, for sure. I was listening to the FOX quite a bit today, and at the end of the song set before going to commercial, there is a sounder advertising for QMF, saying "try out 95.7" I haven't heard those on there before, so are they trying to move their audience to QMF in anticipation of a format change?

That is strange.

They should move the current WTFX back to 100.5 and let that be the home of the new format.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but not only have they registered alt931.com, but it actually redirects you to foxrocks.iheart.com. Not sure how long it has been doing that, I just never bothered to actually go there until tonight and hadn't heard anybody mention where the site actually goes (a few people mentioned it was registered as early as a week ago).

I wonder if it would be a little less, well, "trailer trashy" (for the lack of a better terminology) than The Fox. I think flipping to Alt would, at a minimum, mean some of their "harder" songs on the playlist would be cut, if not a major overhaul. It seems like every other ad on The Fox is for a strip club and/or some event sponsored by the station at a strip club. I think that image probably hurts them a bit. I like The Fox (and to be honest I think I'd like the Alt format if it is like many of the others even better), but once you get past the age of about 30, they seriously become embarrassing to listen to in the company of others. I listen to it still, but never in the company of others. The Alt stations seem to have a more mature identity. If it just means getting that god-awful Rover's Morning Glory off the air, that would be a nice start.

It looks like 93.1 will to urban/hip hop not alternative, I hope I'm wrong

It's possible, but I'd say Alt is more likely. They did register real931.com on the exact same day that they registered alt931.com. But just type in the web addresses. alt931.com takes you to the WTFX website, while real931.com takes you the website of 93.1 The Party, a Las Vegas station that they own that changes formats a lot. My guess is that the Las Vegas station is getting the hip hop, unless they're REALLY trying to throw us off. That would make a lot of sense for Vegas, because as far as I can tell, they are completely devoid of any hip hop stations.

I'm not sure why they didn't just set those domains up to forward to the generic iheart.com anyway. It seems odd that they would automatically redirect to existing stations. They did this before with MyFM, when they were constantly denying anything was changing there, yet months before any change even happened, myfmlouisville.com took you to the Gen-X radio website.

New promo is airing on 93.1 with a lady saying "we've examined all of the alternatives," and says to listen on Wednesday to hear what they've come up with. This leaves little doubt: they'll go to Alt 93.1 on Wednesday.

Wonder how this will affect QMF. Sounds like Charlie Steele was the one keeping the FOX on the air in it's current format.

The latest info. I have read is that it will be like the Alt in Indianapolis.

I have also heard that the fox will continue in some form on the WQMF HD2 channel. Looks like QMF will add some "newer" content to their format as well (new for them anyway). They're also going more live and local from what I've heard. QMF, that is.

For all intensive purposes the fox has been dead for years. At least since premium choice was plugged in. I am surprised they are going alternative. Da ville seems would rather hear volbeat than the latest from death cab for cutie. Puh lease above all else iheart spend a few coins and put live and local on both stations in the morning puh lease. I bet 93.1 drops rover.

I think the problem is that there isn't enough Volbeat (and other similar artists) these days. The Fox has been heavily relying on stuff from the late 90s/early 00s because that was the last time that genre was really big. More and more, they are overlapping with WQMF.

Meanwhile, you consider alternative... it is very loosely defined, but there is so much of it out there these days. And I would imagine it appeals to a broader (and more lucrative) audience than the 20-30 year old guys going to Trixies for Two for One lap dances on Tuesday nights that the Fox targets (though it remains to be seen if they'll continue heavily promoting/tying themselves into that... they might).

I agree with an earlier poster who said that they hoped the "Rover's Morning Glory" show is gone.

I liked when they had Mudd (whom I assume isn't going anywhere when the change occurs... in fact, I think he'd work out just as well with a new format) in the mornings. He kept things very low frills and just stuck to the music, but at least it was local and there was music. I'm fine with shows that go heavy on the talk if it is all local (like on the Max), but these national talk shows in the morning on music stations are not at all what I'm interested in, especially if they're light on the music.
