Chuck in Greenville

Anyone notice the changes in the last few months at Chuck? Back in Feb/Mar, when I first started listening, Chuck literally played everything. Rock, pop, 80's, 70s, I think i even heard a Johnny Cash song! But now when I tune in, it's more rock hits of the 80s, both "new wave" and more tradiional rock. (They throw in a token Temptations or KC and the Sunshine band) but for the most part, it's rock - classic 80s pop.

Anyone notice the changes?

Personally, I don't like it anymore. Sure, I listen, but definitely not as long. I'd work all day and keep the station on, never knowing what I'd hear. But now I tend to tune around.

It's funny you should say that. I knew the previous PD of Chuck and he had told me they wanted to make it less rock and back to its original full spectrum variety.

But I have noticed the shift towards more 80s/90s/00s rock, alternative, new wave and still some pop. Far less 70s, which I personally don't mind but that's a strange move for a station that wants to play "everything". And at the same time, Earth has gotten a bit newer in their playlist as well (but still skews older for the most part).

Not sure what Summit's plan is here with Chuck.

Meanwhile, X98.5 has gotten a little too adventurous with 90s/00s tracks that were not exactly hits. Sounding almost like a college radio station at times. I like a lot of it, but can't see it doing well with a mainstream audience and Clemson well out of its limited reach.

Both 97.7 and 98.5 were silent today. Curious if the are having problems or making some changes. Chuck's Facebook page says it's technical stuff, as does X98.5's Facebook page

Apparently fixing some parts on their translator tower. Both stations were still streaming.

Needless to say, I don't think the repair went as expected.

They're back today. But good God X98.5 is sooooo horrible during Spring/Summer mornings. It can be bad with some static other times of the year, but is unlistenable a good percentage of mornings during warmer months.

I think the station as a whole would do better on another signal but don't see that happening unfortunately.
