Rick D'Amico to retire

OH NOOOOOOOO! Rick and I are just six months apart in age and I was wondering just the other day when he might hang up the mic. The Old Curmudgeon and the Lovely Young Thing have made such a great morning pair these past years it is difficult to imagine who might replace him (although KSAZ seems to have a number of possibilities). Just the other day he was saying his family was taking a drive up to Vancouver, BC and then a cruise to AK. That might now be his swan song. It's gotta be tough getting up at 4AM at his age and he's been doing it for a long time.

From one old sailor to another - Fair Weather and Following Seas!

Happy Retirement to Rick! He certainly deserves it!!

I wonder who will replace him. A few years back, Troy Hayden subbed on AZ AM and did a GREAT job. But would Troy want to switch from evenings to mornings (and, more important, would KSAZ management want that)? Another possibility is Ty from the weekend show, but he still seems rather green after several years.

He will leave large shoes to fill in Valley media and will be missed by many.

I met him a few years ago at a remote. Nicest guy -- all he did was talk about his boat when they were on breaks...

I'll be surprised if Rick and Ruth don't buy a place in San Diego - next to 'Airtime' (his sailboat).

I wouldn't be surprised if they already have one there...I'm sure they will be spending much of their summers there. 76 is a heck of a lot better than 113 :)

The stock price of Southwest Airlines dropped today on reports that Rick and Ruth D'Amico bought a condo in San Diego and would not be commuting weekends any longer.

(OK, just kidding but probably not by much - and they can always sleep on the boat)

FTV Live is reporting that Troy Hayden will be moving to Mornings??

Is Fox 10 AZ AM (or when I watched it way back with Ilona Carson, Arizona Morning...) the top rated morning show? Or is it Good Morning Arizona? One would think an evening anchor would enjoy the night shift...but I guess it can get old.

Troy subbed a few years back and did a GREAT job on Fox 10 AZ AM. (If I weren't so lazy, I would do a search on this forum and find my previous remarks.)

Seriously, I might start watching if Troy takes the spot and this is coming from a solid GMAZ fan.

By the way, who will take Troy's place?

Rick and Andrea announced this morning just after the 9:30 news that "24 hours from now Rick's replacement will be announced".

Troy Hayden, one of the KSAZ evening news anchors, will be replacing Rick D'Amico. Rick's last day on the job will be next Monday. The station has put together a short interview/turnover with both guys on its website: Fox10Phoenix.com/Rick For D'Amico's fans it is a very brief and humorous look back at his almost 50 years in radio and TV. Worth a look. And Hayden is no johnny-come-lately either having spent in the neighborhood of 19 years at KSAZ. I'm gonna miss ole Rickster with his many humorous stories of his early days in radio in Michigan, Puerto Rico and Albany, GA.
