KTVK Adding More News On Weekends!

No, they are NOT adding another hour to weekend GMAZ! :)

Actually, there are expanding their 9pm newscast to one hour AND adding a new 30 minute newscast at 10pm.

I wonder if they will be adding a co-anchor to the newscasts. Also, Ashlee De Martino has been doing the 9pm weather on Saturdays on KTVK, since Kim Quintero has to rise early for GMAZ on Sunday morning. Will Ashlee continue now that KTVK and KPHO will both have 10pm newscasts? Perhaps she can do KPHO's weather in the "first 10 minutes" and, then, run over to the KTVK studio to do their weather at 10:15 or so.

We shall see tomorrow evening!
 
Well, that added "news" wasn't evident this morning. What was were the virtually continuous cuts to the "water tent" hosted by TV3 and the Red Cross to hydrate Phoenix (on a day when the high is expected to be near 116). I did sit through two news segments but it didn't seem any different from what they used to do.

Landtuna, next time, I suggest reading my post :)

They are adding more news in the late evenings, NOT to weekend GMAZ! But I'm sure that you were being tongue-in-cheek here!! :)

Actually, your first sentence and the title of the post got me thinking about their weekend morning show (since that is the only program on 3TV that I watch semi-regularly) and apparently I didn't read the remainder of your post thoroughly. Apologies.

But you have a fair point...

Additional newscasts typically mean a lot more repetition of the same news.

That said, I will say that weekend GMAZ has added a news reporter on Saturdays and Sunday -- typically having Kim Quintero reporting live from an event and Jill Galus/Marc Liverman reporting from the top news story of the morning. So, depending on the day, there may be a bit more hard news reporting on weekend GMAZ, too.
 
Saturday night, April Warnecke did the weather. Not sure about Saturday afternoon. Sunday afternoon/evening Royal Norman did the weather.

Jared Dillingham deserves a medal for working the entire weekend. Not only did he do the 5:00PM and 9:00PM 90 minute news, he did 4 hours on GMAZ substituting for Jamie Cerreta on Saturday and Sunday.

April did the weather on Saturday afternoon.

Hopefully, Jared gets an extra day off this week. I was wondering what KTVK management was thinking. They could have easily delayed the debut of the extended weekend news for one week. It would have been much easier on Jared.

I wonder if Kim Quintero will do all the Saturday night weather now. I guess we will see next Saturday.
 
I watched some of Saturday nights (6/11) 3TV and CBS5 10:00 newscasts. Ashlee De Martino did weather for both programs.

Well, the vacation schedules continue this week as Ashlee De Martino did the weekend GMAZ weather. We shall see if she is there tonight doing double (triple?) duty. Or, perhaps someone else will be there.

It's amazing that they still end up using substitute weather anchors (Steve Garry was on CBS 5 yesterday), even though they have Kylie Cruz and Tess Rafols are substitute weather anchors. Perhaps they just need to hire one more weather anchor to be substitute person and perhaps help out Ashlee on Saturday evenings and, perhaps, be the "wildfire" expert/reporter.
