WILD granted 106.1 translator

After Radio One ended the Urban AC format that WILD had been known for, 1090 began running Radio China International, which is an English-language news and talk service. I suppose the Chinese Government was paying Radio One for the service, since it cannot own an American station itself. Radio China International promotes the Chinese Government's point of view, much like many cable systems run CCTV News (in English) or RT (Russia Today, in both English and Spanish on my cable system). But now it seems the programming is in Mandarin. Did they simply switch from an English-language service to one in Mandarin but still supplied from China? Yes, I'm sure most Chinese immigrants in the Boston area left China for better lives in America but they still want to hear some programming in their original language, even if its from the repressive government they fled.

My guess is with the addition of the FM translator, the station will likely switch formats. You wouldn't go through this trouble just to give Mandarin speakers an FM option. Around the country, many weak AM stations get FM translators and immediately adopt an FM music format. Some stop even referring to the AM dial position.

And notice that Radio-Locator.com already says WILD is being simulcast on the 106.1 translator.

CRI China Radio International But now it seems the programming is in Mandarin. Did they simply switch from an English-language service to one in Mandarin but still supplied from China?

I thought it was maybe a mistake...someone sent the wrong feed down the line.

Oh come now, this is old news:

Word is that G&E Studios/CRI pulled programming from all its US stations at the end of 2015.
 ;)

Did CRI make any mention of the Tiannamen Square massacre anniversary yesterday? I doubt it. Shame on you Radio One. It would have been better if WZBR got the FM translator.

Actually they DID....a rougue announcer at CRI English made an announcement. I heard it that night.

(CRI was known as Radio Bejing)

It would have been better if WZBR got the FM translator.

Why? Because they play a format that you personally enjoy? Are they doing any news, public affairs, etc? Or are they just pumping out music you can get anywhere.

Did they even apply for a Translator?

Granted, Wimmmex, WZBR probably didn't apply for the translator. And Radio One has a right to do what they want with their property. I just think that they could have served the community better than that. Maybe the Chinese community listens to it to realise how well off they are or for the unintentional humor value.

BTW... That Youtube video was from 2011
