Wzum wyzr

Yesterday afternoon June 6th While sitting in a parking lot in Cecil playing with the radio. I tuned in WZUM 1550 then I tuned to 88.1 WYZR, 1550 was ahead of 88.1 ,I wasn't able to Time it But I'D guess 30 to 45 Seconds . Anyone know how they get their Signal to the Transmitter sites?

I would guess that WZUM is still using the IP link that AM Guys were using. No idea about WZUM-FM. Might be public internet with that kind of delay.

Anyone know how they get their Signal to the Transmitter sites?

The 1550AM is a high bitrate MP3 stream from the Pittsburgh Jazz Channel's control room to the old AM Guys WZUM control room in Bloomfield. It comes up as an audio source on the console. This is fed into a processor, the EAS equipment, and then into another MP3 encoder, streamed to a MP3 decoder at the transmitter building.

This was meant to be a quick way to do the switch over. The Sunday morning Two Rivers show and the Shiloh Baptist church server were run out of the old AM Guys control room too. The Two Rivers show is now being feed directly from the PGH Jazz control room. The church service might be gone.

The switch over to a direct feed bypassing the old AM Guys control room will happen in a few days. Who knows, maybe we will load up the automation system and stream the Heart and Soul of Pittsburgh.

Well, the transmitter's in West Virginia, so they could be on dial-up.

Just because it's allegedly in West Virginia doesn't automatically mean we're dealing with dial-up. I'm sure you meant nothing by this. I've had high-speed internet in one of the smallest counties in a very small state, population-wise, for several years after suffering with dial-up, and I do the vast majority of my work for WRSG remotely with very few problems.

It's a joke....ah say, it's a joke son!

(although I had relatives in rural Alabama who were stuck with dial-up until just
a couple of years ago)
