...for the decision to provide (network) coverage of the mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning. WBFO went with syndicated programming at 10:05, as critical information was being released by the Orlando Police Department. WBFO may have a prestigious and award winning news department, but WBEN, the commercial station that gets its share of rips on this board (from posters like me), deserves accolades for providing coverage of the mass murder in Orlando. Now then... the question will be, how will the WBEN talk show hosts frame the issue on Monday.

Yes, credit goes to Mr. Wenger for tossing out the revenue from early Sunday and telling the board op to pot up the network feed. Just what you'd expect from Buffalo's news leader...

Coverage is coverage. Obviously it's national news and no WBEN reporters were there or probably any reporter from Buffalo. They did interview a WDBO reporter this morning on Buffalo's Early News, and we also heard analysis from WBEN's David Bellavia.
What more can a news leader do? I know what happened, and anything that's been discovered over the past 7 hours I've had the radio on. That includes a president who was late to his own news conference and used the shooting to further their POV. Sad.

However, WBFO reports that Governor Cuomo has commented on the story. That's a local angle on a national story.
That didn't take long. Had to go take a hard right down Hate Monger Boulevard. The President, "late to his own news conference." As if he just sauntered in, didn't have anything else to do. No matter that he was being advised by at least three different agencies and wanted to make sure his statements were factual and up to date. Sad. But it's just what we'd expect from WBEN's favorite lapdog here. A compliment is offered, YOU take it to the extreme. A perfect talk show host you are. Take a bow.
It's been that way going back to at least to Clinton. The press secretary sets the time with the WH reporters, and quite often there are late developments, some agency is late to the table, as you said, especially given it's a Sunday, and most dept heads are home. Same with the media...a lot of the main correspondents weren't at the White House until after 1. It wasn't as obvious in the old days before 24/7 cable news networks. It's different for prime time addresses, but a press conference is meant to have a floating start time.
