First, why is KBPA almost always #1? Many cities don't even have an Adult Hits station, let alone have it lead the market. Are people in Austin using Adult Hits as a substitute for Classic Hits? Nearby in San Antonio, KONO-FM is often #1 with Classic Hits. But no such station exist in Austin. Some of Bob's playlist is Classic Hits. I'm surprised how far back the station sometimes goes... Aretha Franklin and Roy Orbison, which are too old for most Classic Hits stations. Some KBPA music would fit on a Classic Hits station. But there are plenty of titles that are not at all Classic Hits.
Second, why is KGSR rated so low? A 100,000 watt station in the two's? In the latest ratings it's tied for #15. Here again, most markets don't have one Adult Alternative station, while Austin has two, commercial KGSR and non-commercial KUTX. Yet Emmis keeps the format on KGSR. Maybe it does a good job of delivering 25-54 men, even if its overall ratings are so-so. But compared to KLBJ-FM, which has more than double the listeners, I doubt it. Meanwhile, Austin has no Classic Rock station. I'm sure KLBJ-FM covers most of that ground, only occasionally playing something current or recent. But KLBJ-FM rocks quite hard. Most Classic Rock stations lean a bit more pop... as much Billy Joel and Elton John as Aerosmith and Zeppelin. I wonder if KGSR would do better as a pop-leaning Classic Rock station?
