Minneapolis/St Paul News question?

I have a question here regarding news in the Minneapolis/St Paul DMA. When did the then Big 3 stations start doing 5PM newscasts instead of entertainment programing at that time.I realize for a long time WTCN(KARE) was at the bottom of the heap and actually have advertising proof they did a local broadcast at 5:30 PM but am mainly wondering when KSTP and WCCO started doing 5 PM news. Thank you very much.

I think KSTP and WCCO have had them for a long time. You can check out TCMediaNOW.com for that.

I have vague memories of WCCO having a 5PM newscast in 1978, I know KSTP didn't through a unique source. I have a copy of the 1978 MSHSL(high school athletic covering body)program for the football playoffs and KSTP had the back cover and they promote news at 6 and 10. I don't have a 79 program(they had back cover rights to football f0r quite a few years) and in 1980 and 81 there are no times listed. For WTCN my proof is MSHSL Basketball programs for 1981 and 82(WTCN had the tourney rights then) and it was 5:30 and 10 PM.

Got my answer for WCCO via old Minneapolis Star(and Tribune) WCCO started the 5 PM newscast on January 22, 1979(and also reduced the 10 PM Newscast to 30 minutes) Apparently the had been doing a 45 minute 10 PM newscast prior to this

KSTP(According to Minneapolis Star, the old afternoon paper) started THEIR 5 PM newscast on Monday November 17
