Weather or not

Ok, we all know that it is hot, even in the mountain communities
like Flagstaff, Show Low and Prescott. Down in the valley, the
temperature ranges from hot to unbelievable. With that said, why
do so many of the valley television stations choose to spend time
on hourly temperatures??? Let's face it, when it is over about 90f
degrees it is hot. After that it is all relative.... Why not spend more
time on weather around the region like Wickenburg, Casa Grande
and even Gila Bend or more time on the many other communities in
the state????

I don't watch KTVK a lot except weekend morning but I seem to remember that Kim Q. does a very good job of covering the state weather in addition to just the Valley. The morning show on KSAZ weekdays also covers the state pretty well although they do focus on the Valley.

Often times we have the same repetitive weather scenario day after day. Why
not add a few moments talking about the Arizona Drought Monitor Map or show
the percentage of capacity at the area lakes and reservoirs. Stations could even
show energy demand in lieu of pretty useless hourly temperatures.

We like knowing how much we are suffering. We argue about whether "tolerable" means 105° or 108°. We bet money on how long a cup of water poured on the sidewalk will take to fully dry. We take glee in telling newbies not to touch metal door handles.

All that means the temperature is very important psychologically, even if there is no practical value in giving it.

I remember back around early June of '73 listening to the Tony Evans on KRIZ saying, "It's 100 in the Valley of the Sun... I could record that and play it until September!" (I was probably in a gas line at the time!)

We take even more glee in watching those newbies not listen to us and grabbing the door handles anyway, with the expected results. :D

And we take glee when the high is occasionally below 100 during a monsoon. "Well, it's cooler but it's turned into a sauna...somehow we made it through!"

So goes the summer in the desert, although I would love to see a national map a little more frequently. :)

All that info is on your cell phone at the push of a button (SRPnet.com). Why wait for it to appear on TV?

Now I am sounding like my kids.

On the KSAZ Morning Show they do show national wx maps and, of course, Rick D'Amico always tells a story about his hometown, Cleveland.

Remember the old days with plastic seat covers? The girls would get out of the car with red stripes across the backs of their legs. Ah, the good old days.

No cell phone............... I'm fighting technology as much as I can..........
I think some of you may have spent a bit too much time in the sun....

My favorite was when there was a monsoon all the neighbors would go outside and let the rain thoroughly douse them. I was one of them, of course.

Of course, my eucalyptus tree would grow about a foot in the week after a monsoon.

I live in the extreme northwest corner of the State, on I-15 known as the Arizona Strip (on maps and zip code, it's Littlefield but the majority of the population lives in Beaver Dam). The only time we get any attention is when the Beaver Dam Wash floods and takes a few homes with it, or a fire along the Virgin River shuts down the interstate.

To get to my point - DirecTV's and Dish's local channels for this area is Phoenix (6 hours and 400 something miles away). We do get Fox 10 on channel 31 through some over the air translator. But whenever you see the weather map on 3/5/10/12/15, the northwest is blank - plenty of space to add the weather for the forgotten up here (and yes, I'm laughing out loud as I type this). Salt Lake City and Las Vegas provides better weather coverage for our area.

I don't expect any of the stations to include Beaver Dam on the weather maps anytime soon - I just wanted to join the conversation! I miss watching Olivia Fierro on Fox 5 in Las Vegas...

I would think that you'd be in the Lost Wages market. But I say the same thing about the rest of Mohave County (Kingman, Bullhead City) and that's not the case.

You must have some elevation, probably West of Beaver Dam in order to get Las Vegas stations.
You are correct about the Northwest portion of Arizona having poor television coverage from within
the state. According to TV Fool, you have 9 Utah stations and one Arizona station.....
The vast majority of translators in N.W. Arizona are owned and operated by The Mohave
Board of Supervisors. Not too long ago they decided to proceed with the digital conversion much to
the frustration/delight of some taxpayers in the area.....
