First time I've heard AIC on 107-5 since KLDE took over the frequency...yep, it was July 18th, 2000 when 107-5 morphed from KTBZ to KLDE. 16 years and 1 day later, the "Rooster" finds its way back to where it first found refuge in Houston, @ 107-5 FM.

Nothing really newsworthy here, just making a casual observation, as well as to inform you that the Eagle has apparently begun diving into grunge rock of the 90s. I think we've probably become the last classic rock market that waited to delve into 90s rock. San Antonio has been doing it for sometime @ KTKX.

If there's more added, I may have to add it back into my presets. I know I'll set off a firestorm, but I'm almost 40 and the music on the Eagle still doesn't appeal to me. Glad to hear there is some shift... I'm sure John Davis can share more info (if he's able to).

Edit: I haven't listened lately, but the almost everything except the (played out) Skynard sounds good to me. I'll definitely give it a try for the rest of my work day.

I think KZPS in Dallas still doesn't spin 90s, then again with sister stations 97.1 The Eagle and 102.1 The Edge the 90s rock scene is pretty much covered. 102.5 in Sherman used to play 90s, they don't anymore.

There's not much to say other than yes, some rock of the 90s has entered the mix, and I like it. It's the natural evolution of classic rock.

Being a weekend jock I have no say in how they run the place, but Scott does a great job with the music.

As for the extra Skynyrd cuts this week, we're giving away concert tickets.

Don't feel bad, Steven. I turned 50 yesterday, and the Eagle fires off too many stinkers for my liking as well. It really doesn't matter, as I have an extensive classic rock library of my own, but for a classic rock station to make The Arrow sound edgy, it really tells you how poor the rock market currently is in this City. Arrow was already regularly rotating Metallica in, when it met its demise. The Eagle won't touch it. I heard Ozzy's "No More Tears" a couple of days ago. Nearly drove off the Gulf Freeway. It was Ozzy, but it wasn't "Iron Man", Steven. Almost an out of body experience feeling...

...and a fine jock you are, John Davis. Heck, you've been more of a constant at 106-9MHz than the format itself. IIRC, you were even there back in the Bo Corona days of The Point. That's 3 different formats now? Staying power to the nth degree.

Scott Sparks. There's a name synonymous with Houston broadcasting. Hall of Fame career, fantastic program director, and another absolute constant in this market. Also, the biggest reason why the Eagle is as "kid friendly" as it is. Likely stems from all of the years he spent cueing up Bryan Adams and Mariah Carey over at KRBE.

You all remember there being something called a "rock wall" here in Houston, right? Well, behold what's left!

A single, broken brick.

Purple: HAHA! "Stinkers" You nailed it. Too many for me yesterday afternoon. Happy belated birthday!

John, thanks for your response. I fully respect your perspective and concur on your statement on Scott Sparks. I know Scott is doing something right--The Eagle is enjoying all-time high ratings. At 38, I guess I just haven't yet moved fully into the target demographic. Not that it matters to you, but early 70s artists like Skynard, Rick Derringer, Mountain, Allman Brothers, Cream, Rolling Stones, and similar send someone my age to the preset selector. After all, someone born in 1975 is now 41. Their high school years started in 1989. It just seems the format is changing slower than the age of the listeners.

I have heard Metallica on The Eagle but a more laid back track from the Metallica album, "Nothing Else Matters". I want to say I heard "One" not too long ago.

You'll hear about a spectacular, fiery truck crash on the news, the day I hear "One" on The Eagle.

You'd like the San Antonio "Eagle", Steven. They play stuff like Dream Theater and Pantera mingled in with the typical Led Zeppelin-Pink Floyd-Aerosmith we've all come to know and accept, here in town. I like your line about The Eagle having the highest ratings in its lifetime. You have to admit, The Eagle is really soaring right now, excuse the corn. Of course, it's pretty easy to win the race, when no one else is running in it.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, gents! Let's just hope rage heard wrong so I can see my 51st, ha!

On my personal FB page there's a video of the KGLK studio monitors violently shaking when turned up to 11 during Enter Sandman. \m/

Then I'd better pay up that life insurance premium before the inevitable crash. When are you guys playing this stuff? Seems like I'm always tuning in The Allman Brothers and Steve Miller around the neighborhood of 107 megahertz. Well, except the other morning as I drove to work at 5:30am, the 5:30 club song played, and then Layne Staley's voice suddenly appeared in my ears. Are you guys dayparting, playing the harder edged rock at night?

You won't hear 90's Grunge on KTKX. There would be too much overlap with the 90's centric Classic Rock on 99.5 KISS.

Have heard "Man In The Box" on KGLK. Thought it sounded fine on The Eagle in Houston.

And that's why these stations are terrible to listen to because 97.1/102.1 "iHeart Rocks Out of My Butt" are too heavy on the 90s and 2000s hits that they tend to not play as much newer rock than they should but that's what happens when they're owned by the company formerly known as Clear Channel (or Cheap Channel).
