KUHA: The Adventure Continues

I was listening to 91.7 this afternoon, and heard...nothing. Just static. Apparently the station is off-the-air. However, on 91.3, I heard what sounded like royalty-free (or buyout) smooth jazz. No ID, legal or otherwise. This is interesting.

It is interesting because I believe the rules stipulate that a translator cannot originate programming, but instead must retransmit the program of a licensed station. In this case, it would either carry the classical piano that is typically on KUHF HD2, or whatever is on 91.7, which at this moment is dead air.

I'm just wondering if the donors revolted like Ted Cruz delegates on the Convention floor, and put the amscray on the $10,000,000.00, or UH simply pulled the plug because they were tired of bleeding money.

The change is supposed to happen August 8. KUHF is silent until then.

Isn't 91.3 KPVU in Prairie View? Smooth Jazz would make sense. Not all stations do a legal ID on the hour. Some do it in the final break of the hour, sometimes as early as about :45 past. Might you have hit 3 instead of 1: 91.1 for the Lake Jackson signal?

Or........ you were hearing Prairie View A&M's KPVU which is once again listenable now that the 91.3 translator is off the air.

The OP was hearing KPVU, which runs Smooth Jazz much of the day. K217GB 91.3 has been off the air since July 15, along with KUHA 91.7.

I can hear KPVU inside the Loop with spotty reception. Also have been hearing KKXT in DFW and KBNJ in Corpus Christi on 91.7 at various times.

I've been checking 91.7 from time to time, hoping to catch any tests that the KSBJEF engineers are running with the new transmitter prior to the launch of KXNG.

I believe you are correct. I trust the appropriate Silent STA has been filed. Since the station in question is no longer operating in the public interest, convenience and necessity.
