WXJC-AM to pair with FM translator

This is a new move-in for Crawford Broadcasting from Donelson (Nashville), TN and will rebroadcast Birmingham's WXJC-AM. No word yet as to what happens with Cordova's WXJC-FM and its simulcast with AM 850. Interestingly enough, W257AR at one time rebroadcast WAMB AM 1160 there in Nashville, which is now WCRT (W257AR is currently silent but had been rebroadcasting AM 1200 there). Crawford Broadcasting owns AM 1260 in Birmingham, which, of course, was WCRT at one time as well.

Here's the link to it on the Tom Taylor page (see "On the Block" section):

The translator is currently at 99.3, so the frequency will have to be changed once it moves to Birmingham.

Good luck finding a place to squeeze it in. Where could it go? 94.1? 92.3? 93.3?

I was wondering the same. WJLD has an FM translator slated for 94.1. There is a translator in Pelham at 92.3 (W222BK) although it is currently off the air. 93.3...aren't there multiple LPFM's around Birmingham using that frequency?

I'm told the 94.1 translator for WJLD is now on the air.

The dial around Birmingham is squeezed tighter than a boa constrictor around a chicken. Anything that's left is going to be severely compromised, like the WJLD translator. It's directional and only blankets about half the Birmingham area with the 60 dBu. There's a 94.1 in Tuscaloosa, a translator in Pell City and I think an LPFM down in Pelham all on the same channel.

Maybe the new WXJC translator could be located on an adjacent channel of an existing station, provided there was enough separation between the two? Alabaster has WZAL-LP at 99.9 and then there's the translator at 100.1 in Birmingham. They are on adjacent channels, although doing so severely limits the 100.1 translator's reception in Shelby county. I just can't see how any new FM translator in Birmingham could fit on a second adjacent, given what is already on the air.

Any idea why the 92.3 translator (W222BK) in Pelham was never moved to Birmingham/Red Mountain as many of the other FM translators have done? Doesn't seem there would be any issues with it being moved into Birmingham, and even upgraded, for that matter. Maybe possible interference issues with WXJC-FM in Cordova?

Yeah, I think the main issue with 92.3 would be with the Dora station... That said a friend suggested that 92.3 and 101.7 might be good contenders for another translator if they're located northeast of downtown.

A 92.3/92.5 simulcast of WXJC actually makes some sense.
