Majic Returns to 97.5

Majic 107.5 will return the 97.5 simulcast today at 4:15PM.

About a year ago, Radio One replaced Majic with a simulcast of Boom (102.9), its classic Hip-Hop format. Since then, Majic's ratings on just 107.5 have been sliding.

Majic 107.5 has a much improved signal from their new "Gwinnett is Great" site (thanks, Jabba), and it's arguably better than 97.5's signal downtown. Nevertheless, Radio One wants to protect its important Majic franchise and insure strong coverage on the south side.

Boom will still be heard on the 102.9 translator from New Street.

WOW, this is cutting edge exciting news...

"Boom will still be heard on the 102.9 translator from New Street."

Uh-uh. 102.9 transmits from the American Tower facility which is located on Chester Avenue, adjacent to I 20 East of downtown.

One other little wrinkle here. Radio One has a CP to move 102.9 to the 97.5 site. Their apparent intent was to simulcast 107.5, solving the signal problem on the south side and freeing up 97.5. However, I was told that move is unlikely to ever happen.
