This isn't EDM. Not even close. They've played the Beatles & Wilson Pickett already, and the rest of the songs are hip hop/pop.
But a lot of the songs would appeal to someone who is hitting seek to get to Boom 92 and would catch their attention. Since NGEN is essentially a Christian hip hop station, someone who listens to Boom might stick around after the launch. Plus it's similar in sound to what they'll be playing after the station launches so you can tweak the processing to it.
It's a well thought out, well executed stunt.

I saw the Youtube ad and it sure looked like an EDM to me, but alas, I'm on the fringe of the Houston listening area so I couldn't prove it with my own ears.

La Mejor's operation is no different than the operations of Bonneville which are part of a church owned business which is intended to make a profit to sustain the church that owns it.

I just wonder - who made the decision to allow this format on the frequency? I refuse to believe it is an attempt to capture the 92.1 crowd. The days of analog hunt tuning up and down the dial are long over, digital with pre-sets has been the norm for decades. So all they are going to do is really PO classical fans who didn't get the message, and PO NGEN fans who wish they would just launch NGEN already - and drop the songs with really ungodly lyrics.
In case I come off as judgmental and narrow minded - I am a former Christian rock programmer on a station in Florida. Christian rock and hip-hop stations are held to an almost impossible standard of perfection - by conservative owners and churches that are just waiting for us to foul up so they can have an excuse to pull the plug. A good example is the host of the show before mine - we overlapped a little and worked together from time to time. Knowing he HATED country, I thought I would play a joke and play Love Song's "Front Seat Back Seat". He let loose a "S" bomb - he was GONE from the station's lineup the next week.

The paywall site RadioInsight has confirmed that this is a stunt during equipment tests, leading up to a launch NGEN Radio on Monday. In the meantime, Mike Jones and his posse are spinning "party hits" to attract attention.
It's also mentioned that the Houston Chronicle bought the stunt 100% and have announced it as a permanent format.

The genius who came up with the idea of using traditional format switch stunting on a non-com hit a home run! Even the Chronicle bought in, and there is plenty of trending on social media, totally attracting and focusing attention on 91.7. If there is any way to clear any negative images about what was on the channel while at the same time attracting attention, they have done it big time.
That's gotta be the best description of all possible terms for the format!
Why is operating a profitable enterprise whose purpose is to fund outreach or other good works considered a transgression? I think it is a great way for a church or denomination to expand its message!

When a church, let's call it that since that's what it operates as, programs music that includes a song with the words "stupid bitch" in Spanish, I'd call that a transgression, David. That's fine if he wants to program secular music in hopes of paying the bills at sister station "La Nueva"; but not so much if he is truly a called upon Apostle of God.
This isn't a lease. Latino Broadcasting is Hector Guevara. The program on La Mejor is, quite frankly, a direct reflection of him. For those not familiar with La Mejor, what they are programming would be akin to hearing The Murmurs unedited version of "You Suck" finding its way into EMF's or KSBJ's library.
Not something you'd expect from a Christian based O&O.
