Anybody know anything about this station? Bizarre short music list - bluegrass, country, rock. All over the map. Heard a pickin bluegrass song then Van Halen. Met the owner and he is so emotionally attached to the weird format it is scary. I am searching the area for a good fit for myself and this is the biggest signal but not much else is positive.

Owner is very well heeled and can afford the expensive hobby. He bought it to promote his Yonder Holler Music Hall which featured appalachian music (thus the call letters), but that went under shortly after he bought the radio stations. He does (or used to do) a local right wing political talk show. He once listed it for sale on Craigslist for an exorbitant amount or maybe it was just on his website. He once advertised for a saleperson offer the chance at a six figure income. And he has about five or six times as much invested in it as it is worth.

If the guy has the cash, that's good. The scary part is at what point is the station no longer a fun thing to the owner or will you mesh well with the owner. I must admit bluegrass to Van Halen is quite a stretch.

Pretty much what I gathered talking to him. Big signal that doesn't exist. Thinks the problem is sales not programming. However it may run like that for years as it doesn't cost much to keep it going.

Big signal that doesn't exist. .

Actually, it could be one of the best AM daytime signals in East Tennessee. Back in the day, the station had a pretty good signal with 1,000 watts. When the present owner took it to 5,000 watts, he replaced the decayed tower (actually had rusted completely thru in several places) but didn't replace the ground system which was originally installed back in 1953 and has deteriorated badly. The site is only a few hundred yards from Watts Bar Lake and on days that there is a heavy rain down there, I have picked it up as far away as Nashville and Chattanooga.

It may not be worth what it once was, but a good small town operator could make decent money providing Roane County with a real local station.
