Why Some News Broadcasters Are Like Actors

Here are some examples to start this discussion (you may add your own examples):

Because some of them had used scripts while presenting news reports for their news broadcasts.

Because some of them had expressed emotions while presenting news reports for their news broadcasts.

Because some of them had referred to their news programs as "shows" (a word some members of their audiences may associate with entertainment or any scripted TV program).
 
Because any visual broadcast medium requires certain attributes which are similar attributes to those of actors.
 
They're all actors. They ALL use scripts to this day. And emotions (faked) are encouraged, especially among female anchors who want to show you just how deeply they care (not) about the city's 200th homicide this year.

The British get it. They don't let "news" or "journalist" come anywhere near a mention of these talking heads. They refer to them as "presenters."

Oh and I am really really truly truly sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry, Mario, for being so negative. I know how much you dislike negativity and I will try to avoid it going forward. But at least I kept my language clean!

Perhaps you didn't mean it that way, but this particular line, in context with the rest of your examples, sounded like a criticism.

OF COURSE news broadcasters use a script. Just as newspaper reporters write a story before it's published rather than just publishing their notes.
 
Ever read about "The March of Time?" A Time-Life production dating back to the 1930s. A series of movie house news reels playing in theaters re-enacting news events with actors of the day including many from Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre.

More specifically, there is John Lindsey. Lindsey (not the NYC mayor) was a struggling west coast actor who based on looks and ability to deliver a script was hired as news anchor at WLWI-TV Indianapolis. Competitor WRTV hired Lindsey out of the market to co-owned KMGH in 1976.

Journeyman broadcaster Nick Clooney (George's father) spent most of the early part of his career as a disk jockey, local TV dance show host, game show quizmaster and local talk show host. In the 1970s, he also appeared on occasion in roles at Cincinnati's Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. He went on to anchor TV news in Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Buffalo.

And then there's CBS 60 Minutes personality Mike Wallace. While not known as an anchorman per se, Wallace began his career as a radio actor in Chicago and Detroit.

In other words, anchor or actor...ain't no big thing.

And while in Chicago, Wallace also served as announcer on "The Green Hornet" radio show; years after he took his talents to New York, Mike also hosted a few game shows including the "Nothing But the Truth" pilot. But when it went to series as "To Tell The Truth", he was passed for Bud Collyer.

The late George Michael LONG before he would end up doing sports for WRC channel 4 in Washington and even before doing radio at Philly's WFIL and NYC's WABC ,I had been told by a number of old timers here in Denver over the years that he for a very brief time back in the mid 60s he had hosted Denver's version of American Bandstand for KBTV ( now KUSA ) channel 9. That would make sense since in those days he was a jock for Denver's KBTR which at the time was in the same building with their sister KBTV. On the other hand I can't find anything online that says George had ever done such a thing ( though his bio does mention his KBTR work ) BUT there are those out here in Denver who will swear to it.

OK I do know whet you mean. Former KTXL Sacramento anchors Pete Wilson and Gary Radnich. Once they became the highest paid broadcasting talent on Bay Area from TV News presenters they also did talk radio to expand their audiences. Gary Radnich during his rise as the most popular Sports Presenter on KRON 4 San Francisco he did a Talk Radio Show on KNBR 680. Pete Wilson another Bay Area News presenter on ABC7 News and Kron in San Francisco did Talk Radio on KGO 810 AM before Citadel got full control of the former ABC Radio stations.

Well if you want to see real journalism at play on the TV side here you would have to watch a well produced Youtube Documentary.

this group does investigative journalism. PBS Frontline is Good Journalism and they tend to team up with groups like Propublica and PRX reveal, NY times and so on for some episodes

Well Jerry Springer was the Mayor of Cincinatti prior to doing news host and Talk host or more likely freak show host. note all the people I heard of in TV News was either a broadcasting major or communications major prior to the seat they got.
