when I got in my car at 7 this morning, the HD beacon was on, so they were back on the main transmitter
Not now on old terrestrial radio at 1:03 PM on BZ. Fuzzy reception
a little after 4 PM Fridaty, I had the HD light on and it was detecting HD.
Unless they are running HD on an AUX transmitter, I don't know what to tell you, but they are "making the trip" to New Hampshire
Yup, they have been “regular” until sometime between 7:35-9:10am, switch to their IBOC-less aux xtmr for middays, and return to their regular xmtr by about 4:10pm, so Iʼm guessing they are running aux from about 8-9:00am until probably 4pm.a little after 4 PM Fridaty, I had the HD light on and it was detecting HD.

well the theory that they are going to the AUX after morning drive.... not today. When I got in the car a little after 7 AM until I got home about 10 AM, there was no HD and in North Andover/Lawrence/Methuen it was a tad weak.
Right—I was listening when they switched over: At exactly 5:38am they clicked off-air for c.5-15 sec., then came back on, IBOC-less, with reduced power.
Then, this past morning, they started clicking (off and on?, <.5 sec.) at about 6:30am, but remaining regular xmtr status until (before?) about 7:10am, when—after clicking off-on(?) again—I checked and they appeared IBOC-less, with reduced power.
Next time, why not call and ask to speak to the Chief Engineer?
As I've stated before, WBZ is probably working on their VERY OLD antenna system.
I was reported that they plan on replacing their towers.
I donʼt know if its removal is part of this extended “project”, but for exactly the past week—since last Thursday—IBOC has been totally MIA!!!: It was apparent they were definitely back using their full-power xmtr by 5pm that afternoon, with no sign of IBOC—maybe those 2-3 previous mornings when they switched to aux earlier than usual (since then theyʼve seemed pretty much 9am-4pm) they were removing the IBOC components?
But before we get too giddy and gleeful at the prospect, remember that, in the past, 'BZ and other AM IBOC blowtorches (e.g., WTIC) have had their digital components off for a couple of weeks at a time, waiting for necessary “software upgrades”.
Time will tell!![]()
To the uninformed...like me on a technical background could you explain what Iboc means? Thanks ;-)
Wonder if WBZ Radio AM 1030 is offering a rebate to all the weekend paid investment programs whose listening audience has become severely limited by the fact that WBZ Radio AM 1030 has been on low power most weekends and some week days since June. Perhaps, WBZ commercial sponsors should also demand a rebate because they were sold a signal strength which WBZ Radio AM 1030 has failed to deliver on those advertising contracts. Those advertisers are clearly not getting the coverage they were promised which is a breach of WBZ Radio AM 1030's contracts with them.
Radio rates are based on listener delivery, not theoretical coverage. As long as the ratings stay in the same range, it does not matter if they are broadcasting morse code with a flashlight.
Not to mention that WBZ covers the Boston metro fine at lower power. It's not selling time to anyone based on its ratings (nonexistent) in western Massachusetts or any of the 20-odd other states its skywave signal may reach at night when it's running 50 kilowatts.
Have you ever sold " Air" ? The biggest sales pitch is the signal strength and the coverage map. So, it appears what you are saying in that "Time Salesmen" are liars who should not be believed. Now, that is a big surprise. Still, would not be surprised if one of investment shows doesn't demand some sort of a rebate because 'BZ sounded like a 5 watt station when their purchased time was being broadcast.
