What's up with these new call letters?

ABMP reports that the Evergreen AM has taken the calls WPNS... Those calls belong in Pensacola. Looks like an obvious case of parked calls, but why? The only station in Pensacola needing new calls is unrelated WTKE-AM 1490.

Zach also reports the new FM south of Montgomery has taken the calls WSMX-FM.... the same calls used by WSMX-LPFM north of Montgomery. What does WSMX stand for? Country music along the lines of Nashville's WSM?

The WSMX-LP calls you speak of, are in Clanton and they stand for Super Mix 98.3 (WSMX-LP). And their playlist isn't kidding about that. They play all kinds of music on this LPFM station. I tuned in, a few weeks ago and heard a rock tune, then heard a classic Country song and then Downtown by Petula Clark. This is one great sounding LPFM radio broadcast. I like they way they present their radio station, to the Chilton county area. It's amazing indeed.

P.S. Just learned on Wikipedia that the WSMX calls, in the Brantley area, stand for Super Mix 100.3. The format is still Classic Country. I wonder if they still have plans of moving to Goshen (Troy area) anytime soon. Been reading about them having a CP to relocate there.

We do have an ambulance chasing law firm local to Evergreen called Long & Long. #true
They used to be Long & Waite, I guess Waite couldn't handle Long.

Damn... all this talk about sausages and poor ol' ABMP, Groovy and I have to wait until the last Saturday in October for Elberta. (Elberta's a Mobile-Pensacola thing outsiders shouldn't understand.). 1 with, 1 without.

Best small, cheap, festival in the Mobile-Pensacola area. And they hold it twice a year!

I love the excuse to drink beer before noon and I'm just perverted enough to spend some time following the Azalea Trail Maids around.

I'll get the story on 1470AM, and will share the story about the calls, if they say it is okay.

WPNS was parked on 1620 when it was silent in Atmore. It has been WNRP ever since it signed on from Pensacola.

I can say a lot more: The owner is definitely planning to move 1470 into the Pensacola market.

Is this owner named Hale or related to him or working on his behalf?

Finally a real host station for W246BN?

Ha ha, you think he cares his translator runs illegally? Apparently the FCC doesn't care either. I know at least one tip has been filed with them over the translator's questionable legality... And nothing's been done for all these years. So why would he spend money to make it legit?

FCC.org says WPNS has been acquired by Andala. Andala owns WNWF in Destin, FL. They seem related to Tri-City in Pascagoula that owns the new sports trimulcast of WPMO and WDXZ and WNWF.
It would make no sense whatsoever for Sports King Hale to sell 1470 to a competing sports programmer that planned to move the station into Pensacola unless the next step is to add WTKE and WTKP to the sale.

Wish I knew what was going on behind the scenes here.

Andala is not related to Tri City Radio at all. WDXZ is no longer sports. They are now WJNZ and went talk last month

??? When did that happen?

Last time I ran through the AM band during the day was probably a week or two ago and it seemed like there was a sports talk show on.

I've heard sports past sunset - they've not been signing of at night - more recently than that...
