Pirate on 104.7?

Playing a mix of classic rock, oldies and pop mostly from the 50's through the 80's. No station ID or jingles, sounds like an iPod on auto-play. Signal loud and clear in the Arden Arcade area around Watt Ave. sounds like it's in stereo. Maybe the pirate at 95.5 moved frequencies?

Hmm.. Maybe I found it. It's possible that Lotus is testing the translator they bought and apparently moved to the KCRA studio tower downtown. It will translate KMJE 890 at some point if that's it.

Not sure, but notice the big null in the proposed signal towards woodland.

I checked with our consultant (who has the Commander software) and he says it's OK on paper. But of course it won't work realistically. We'll be stepping on each other all over the place. I've been in contact with Edgewater and suggested they try 107.5 instead. With KQPT moving North and K-Love on 107.3 moving into San Francisco it should really be a better place for them. Also, as a "250 mile waiver" move they can change frequencies by more than 3 channels. So it makes sense.

I say this as I'm placing the final order for all of the parts to complete that 130-watt upgrade. Hope it's not a futile effort.

OIC Ghost FM, I understood Coast FM, which made no sense considering the station's location. Listened a little more this weekend, and they seemed to insert these station "IDs." Programming does not sound professional, but they do play some interesting songs and artists, as any pirate station should. The stereo signal covers Sac city pretty well, quickly fades once you reach W Sac.

Yeah I saw the null but like you said, the real world will have a nasty crash zone. I've been watching the K-LOVE move for awhile now. At one point it looked like they were going to do an on channel boaster in the east bay. Not sure what they're planning to do these days.

So with 107.5 Now FM moving, I won't beable to hear them anymore in West Sacramento?

Having lived in Chico for many years, this is a GREAT move for KQPT. I listened to the station on K300AD (107.9) back in the late 90's. It was (and I imagine still in) a good translator.

I am curious what they plan to do with K300AD?

That's difficult to say. The construction permit is for about 10 KW toward Sacramento at 156 meters. It will be quite a bit weaker than it is, and certainly not listenable if another translator comes on at 107.5.

I have no inside info, of course. But does Mapleton have any AM stations in Chico? (just a hunch). That translator is a special fill-in and runs 250 watts from the top of the hill on Highway 32 (which has to be absolutely the longest straight mountain road in the U.S.)

I know the area well. In a past life I was a radio engineer in Chico. :) Mapleton doesn't own any AM's in Chico. They do own 2 in Redding though.
