Kaedy & Steve Trade Dayparts

Both All Access and Rodney Ho have reported that Kaedy Kiley has moved to afternoons, and Steve Craig has shifted to mornings on 97-1 The River.

I am not sure of the real reason for the move. PD Chris Eagan's statement that "Kaedy is best known for afternoons in the market - that is where the River audience wants to hear her..." makes no sense. Yes, Kaedy did become a legend in afternoons but hasn't worked in that daypart for about 12 years. At this point she's probably best known for mornings. Eagan also said, "Steve's conversational, witty style will sound great in morning drive." Well, I suppose I could force myself to believe Steve, given his music knowledge, will provide the semblance of a real morning show.

Kaedy is getting the best of the deal. She can sleep in, and The River's ratings are higher in afternoons than in mornings.

Read the last half of the last sentence :) Whether or not the change will improve the one without cost to the other is up for discussion, but there's the reason.

Do music intensive formats do as well in mornings as other dayparts?

It depends on what other stations are doing. IMHO the most direct "threat" is the 100.5 morning show. In this case Rock 100's is the old 96 Rock Regular Guys without the guys and the big payroll. Supposedly there is a big money lawyer who spends big on on 100.5's morning show. I have no access to hourly breakouts but I am pretty sure 100.5 does not do well with females in the AM. Also music intensive is really hard to do with frequent traffic reports.
