Is Orlando just a step market?

I have seen so many talented people working in Orlando move up to bigger markets. Yet, Orlando is still a top20 market. Is the pay not competitive? Or is it just a stepping stone market?

The latest is Dave Espinosa-Hill, moving to a big-time afternoon/evening anchor position in Seattle. (Also just a top20 market).

I don't think Orlando is just a step market. After all, the Top 50 are considered major markets and then goes mid-size until 100 and small from there.

I love the Orlando market. I'm always on vacation in Orlando every single year (have done so since 2006) and I think its a great TV market, considering that Orlando is smaller than Miami and yet has its own 24-hour local cable newschannel (News 13).

And personality wise, maybe young reporters want to move on to bigger markets, but for anchors, they usually stick around. I can mention a few... Jim Payne (WESH), Bob Opsahl (WFTV until he retired), Greg Warmoth, Vanessa Echols and Martie Salt (WFTV), Bob Frier and Amy Kaufeldt (WOFL), Jackie Brockington and Marla Weech (News 13) and usually chief meteorologists stick around longer than anchors and the list is impressive as all have credibility and popularity in the area: Tony Manolfi (WESH), Tom Sorrells (WKMG), Tom Terry (WFTV) and Glenn Richards (WOFL).

You can't go wrong with Orlando as its an amazing market. So NO... its not a step-market unless if you treat it as such as a viewer.

Sacramento is also a top 20 market. I seen lots of talented people move to the top 10 DMA's before going into network news.

even some of these people went on to network news. Heck the most recent Sacramento example is from CBS Sacramento KMAX/KOVR. Two names Audrey Asistio and Ron Jones left CBS Sacramento because a bigger DMA stations like WBTS/NECN got Asistio an offer to move to Boston and Ron Jones got an offer to move to WXIA.
