Why do "Live" entertainment news shows exist?

The word gives a sense of urgency and freshness. The two biggest deceivers are Kelly Ripa's show (which isn't live in 3/4 of the country) and Jimmy Kimmel, although the intention was to go live when he debuted.

When do the feeds for the "Live" shows -- Access Hollywood, TMZ and Hollywood Today -- usually come in?

Kelly Ripa airs live on the east coast at 9AM ET, from the WABC studios. Unless Central time affiliates run her at 8AM, it isn't live. Same with western time zones.

It is going to sound silly and bizarre to us but I am sure that there are those out there who really believe that Kelly Ripa does the 9am show live for the eastern time zone ( she does ) and repeats everything again LIVE an hour later for the central & mountain time zones.....and then yepper...repeats everything again LIVE this time for the western time zones. My late great-grandmother ( RIP )would be one of those people. To her everything on the air had to be live..everything even sitcoms and dramas. Ok she was in her early 90s then but then again I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are those half her age and even younger who share the same idea she had.

Which I bet very few if any stations do (unless a FOX affiliate or an indie clears her)

I believe Inside Edition is taped at 3pm and some stations may take it live. I know WUSA airs it at 3:30 and they usually discuss any events that broke that morning or early afternoon.

Broadcasters are as skilled at lawyers at telling the truth while misdirecting. They define "live" as recording a show as if it were going out live. No editing. No stopping. No post-production (except bleeping). This goes back to the 70s only back then they usually called it "live on tape." However, once in a while they do stop or edit in extreme circumstances but still call it "live."

"Kelly" airs at 10 AM MST in Phoenix and we all know it is taped. That said - how is that show considered any sort of "news" entertainment or otherwise. Aside from references to topical news in the Noo Yawk papers there is no newsworthy content on "Live" at all.
