Kfnc 97.5 road trip

 Took a road trip this afternoon from Spring Cypress up 249 through Tomball and then 2920 west to Waller past the 97.5 Translator site, in Rosehill, I had a good KFNC signal all the way with RDS display till I got between Kickapoo rd and Waller on 2920 then RDS dropped, out but still able to listen to ESPN with some slight noise, 2920 at new 290 over pass signal light, in and out with garble, then recovered with readable signal still no RDS between New and old 290, on 2920, turned around and headed back toward Tomball, signal a little fuzzy till a mile and a half East of Waller RDS starting working and signal was loud and clear back to Rosehill, stopped in at the Dollar General store parking lot in front of American tower site on 2920 where 97.5 translator is located ?, I saw no sign of any type of FM antenna, directional or other wise antenna any place on the tower, and not at the top part of the tower where the antenna is licensed to be. I need to go with my field glasses and check it out from several different locations, But no new bright metal antennas, It is possible they were testing from a different site to set it up and check it out before moving it to licensed location, Car I was driving 2015 Hyundai Sonata with HD Radio and shark fin antenna. signal was about equal at the same places both east and West. not a scientific test but shows translator will play rough with KFNC signal which is very good in the NW area with no doubt many ESPN listeners,

On my way back from New Orleans Sunday night, I was able to pull in 97-5 from Welsh, LA (I-10) to the east and as far southwest as Hungerford (US 59). Great signal!

Unlike KBME's signal, which is a disgrace to the network.

I wish Clear Channel would let Gow Media have the 'Stros, because it's obvious CC doesn't appreciate the opportunity of being the Flagship of the Astros Radio Network.

A 2000 ft tower south of I 10 near Winnie.....it covers well to the east but not the SW and W sides of Houston proper....Where the $$ population is.....790 still covers that....but the only AM to cover most of the Houston market is KTRH.....any other is a compromise given the growth of the area...and most Houston DA AMs were built to shoot to the Gulf :(

Wave, 790 does cover the west and southwest sides of Houston...during daytime hours.

Nighttime hours? It's a completely different story. If you're travelling west of Houston on I-10, you'll lose 790 just outside of Katy. If you're travelling southwest on US59, you'll lose KBME in Rosenberg.

Nighttime hours are so important because that is when the majority of the Astros games are played (KBME is the flagship station of the Astros Radio Network).

Here's hoping Clear Channel gives the Flagship back to KTRH, or allows KLVI out of Beaumont to become an affiliate.

Or, Clear Channel allows KBME to continue to serve as the Flag and employs one of the many Houston FM translators to help KBME gain nighttime coverage to the west and southwest.

Here, here! On this, we most assuredly agree. You may be interested to learn that the ol' 56 used to be an affiliate, so it would be a return home for the 'Stros if they were to find themselves on KLVI in the Triangle again.

I remember riding in the car with my dad from Lafayette to Houston in the early 90s and listening to an entire game on KLVI. I really miss the days of KLVI being an Astros affiliate.

In 1999, when KTRH became the Flag, I believe that's when KLVI was relieved of its duties as an affiliate.

Oh yes, I remember it well too. Sure would be good to have that affiliate return, but as long as the little extended band AM that barely can from Orange carries them, there's just no way it will happen.

Since we're on sports, who carries the Texans over in the Triangle these days? Is that KOGT, as well, or are The Triangulate forced to pull in the flagship KILT from over here?

1450AM covers the Texans in Beaumont, but when the Texans game conflicts with an Astros game, 1510AM steps in and covers the Texans.

1600AM also covers the Texans.

In regards to the Astros Radio Network, there is indeed an AM affiliate in Beaumont (1450AM) in addition to Orange's KOGT, so yes, you can have an Astros affiliate in Beaumont and Orange.

As of right now, with both nighttime coverages from KIKR and KOGT, two affiliates are needed. If KLVI were indeed to step in, the need for an Orange affiliate during nighttime hours would go away.

its a Class C on a graveyard channel.....Actually, thats about better than it was at 250watts in the 70s as KAYC!!! Considering all the co channels were also increased to 1KW-U and the noise floor increased, plus the increase of noise from man made sources, its not that bad overall..

Ah....Stuckey's. The go to place on the open Texas interstate, long before Buc-ee's was a place to go, at all.

Not the mention the "Texas Stop Sign"... the A&W.
