SAVE WLW Night time Signal Petition

I'll be honest, I am biased. I would prefer all clear channel stations to be free of others. I enjoyed as a kid (mind you, kid in the 1990s) searching my antique am radio to hear WSAI play oldies on 1530, news from WABC and the Phil Hendrie show on 1200 WOAI. Even enjoyed 1630 KCJJ playing the ABC sat 80s90s stuff. It to me was learning about radio and preservation on a line of communication that will always be needed.

Do people in Miami need to hear KMOX? No, they don't. But, If KMOX is one of 5 stations on the air using 50's Gates transmitters due to a EMP and you're lucky enough to not have chucked that Tube radio years ago....might appreciate the information you'll be getting then.

Makes me wonder how many hollow state transmitters are left at higher power stations, even as auxiliary rigs.

Going back to the 70's, most of the intermediate stage circuitry was all transistorized and the rectifiers were not tube type. High level modulated tube gear is so inefficient that all the significant 50 kw operations I know hare solid state for both main and aux transmitters. And all the audio circuits and processing gear is solid state.

So, you might have a few transmitters with working final stages, but nothing solid state to drive them or feed them audio. In other words, we'd be SOOL.

P.S. People in Miami probably hear Ondas del Lago from Maracaibo on 1120, anyway. Or a Cuban station.

Only a few still have them. But a few is the key word there. I use to have a 1K in my garage. Made the mistake of trusting a christian station begging for a donation only to have them keep it and turn the license back in.

Feel rather burnt on that one.

FYI i hear KMOX pretty good in Miami....better as I head towards Clewiston though.

I hear KMOX just fine here in central Ohio, and luckily WLW still comes in very well here. One thing that gets tiring are the subtle suggestions, some not so subtle, that people have no business listening to out of market stations. It doesn't hurt anybody.
