WUMB should flip to True Oldies !

Better than what they are doing now, whatever that is.

I would think Boomers would eagerly fund it.

Why not try it ?

By some miracle of the heavens WMLN escaped the Blue Hills yesterday morning and I was able to hear them and they were playing this music and it was nice to hear.

Unless you can Bob Bittner's clone to run it, that is a tough. Today, it is hard to get support for listener-donation based music formats, even jazz and classical.

Why should they?

Personally, given the coverage of Boston neighborhoods and the demograpics of UMass Boston, I think they should take the place of Touch 106. Community oriented urban radio.

Agreed, for WUMB itself... but most of the WUMB repeater stations are not in particularly urban areas.

To be honest, I see WUMB becoming the eventual K-Love target.

Well, there's another crime against humanity....WUMB scooping up anything that moves.

Didn't they try to move in on the Maynard HS's frequency?

Plus, I can't believe that the repeaters/translators give them much more audience.

Why should they change - period? Other than OP apparently doesn't like folk music. Personally, I do. I'm glad there is one public radio folk/acoustic/Americana music station that hasn't sold out and flipped to AAA.

Even assuming everything else is consistent with your premise - what, to YOU, constitutes "True Oldies"?
That really depends on your age, and what era's music was the soundtrack of your life, growing up.
For ME, that would mean, roughly, early 60's British Invasion until disco, mid-70"s.
Your mileage may vary!

They have not added any transmitters or signals since their General Manager change about five years ago. The only change since then was previously planned, moving the WUMB, Boston transmitter to a taller tower in Quincy.

About six years ago, WUMB began time-sharing with Maynard High School students on their station WAVM. When the students aren't broadcasting, it rebroadcasts WUMB. Though they share the same facilities, they are legally separate stations. WAVM Maynard, and when rebroadcasting WUMB, it's WUMG, Stow. Maynard High students got a power upgrade from ten to 500 watts for their station out of the deal.

WUMB gets a significant percentage of their contributors from their translator listeners.

It's more AAA than it used to be in its "Folk Radio" years, but it's far from turning into a commercial-free WXRV.
