AM radio noise in car (not ignition noise)

Hi, I thought this might be a good place to ask this question. I've tried automotive forums without any luck.

I bought a 2012 Jeep about 6 months ago. I didn't notice until after I took delivery that there's a high-pitched noise lasting about 2 to 3 seconds that comes through the AM radio when I take my foot off the brakes. Not every time, but after I've had my foot on the pedal for maybe 10 or 15 seconds. Another tap on the brake pedal during the 2 to 3 seconds silences it.

I can also provoke the noise continuously by stopping on a hill and shifting into drive with my foot on the breaks.

The noise can be heard loud and clear through a portable battery-operated radio inside or outside the car, so I don't think the problem is the car's radio itself, more likely a sensor of some kind, maybe having to do with the ABS or traction control. It seems loudest on the portable radio when holding it near the center console. I hear it on all frequencies but I it may be louder on the mid to lower end of the dial.

The dealer where I bought the car didn't seem very interested in trying to find it because, "No one listens to AM radio!" ... but I still do and I find the noise pretty annoying.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Thanks Frank, that's what I'm thinking, but I wonder what triggers it in connection with the brakes and angle of the car. The dealer did clean some grounds but that didn't make a difference. They also said they checked the database available to them but couldn't find a similar complaint. Hard to believe it's a one-of-a-kind issue but anything's possible!

How does one go about fixing an AM car radio with poor reception? Mine has lots of static regardless of whether the car is running. Does it need a ground of some kind? I know next to nothing about this aspect of radio.

Whip antennas should be grounded to the fender.

I have a unique issue with my car AM radio.
When the turn signals and probably the emergency flashers are on, the sensitivity and volume click high-low-high-low in synch with the flashers.
The antenna is part of the rear window assembly.
Could the defroster be going into and out of the circuit?

I wonder if perhaps one of the guys over at the Engineering Forum might have an idea about this.
