NEW STATE #30 on AM! 12/4/2016

And it's New York!

810 - WGY NY, Schenectady; faint talk under S9++ KGO at 2258-59 PT. Pointed the loop east where I was able to fairly null KGO; heard "810" and then partial calls "...GY" under KGO TOH ID at 2300 PT, both going into national news. The partial call sign matches! This is a new, well-wanted state finally in the logbook. NEW #729, 50KW at 2,281 miles!! NEW STATE #30!
Audio clip to be posted tomorrow. You can clearly hear the "GY" towards the end of the clip, under KGO's ID.

WBBM and WGN both heard tonight, very strong at times. Also no doubt WJR-760 w/ Red Eye Radio under/over Denver at 2256 PT. CBKF-2 is in on 860, with French talk (it is not CJBC, because it is // to 690 CBKF-1). 880 CKLQ also heard with // to stream, very rare! Great conditions towards the east tonight, with solar activity hardly noticeable. A-index is extremely low (2!), K is 0-1.

Conditions were excellent last night. WBBM & WJR were heard on the Northern Ireland receiver. WJR better than I've heard it. CFTR & lots of Canadians were strong. Also, KVNS was there.

And it's New York!

Congratulations! I'm a little surprised that your first New Yorker is WGY. Just from the standpoint of it not exactly being a juggernaut around here compared to most of the other northeast "clears". But then the NYC blowtorches and WHAM would figure to have a tougher path to make it to your location.

In addition to Cyberdad's point I'm also surprised that WGY is your first NY station especially since KGO is so strong up & down the west coast. Good catch!

A tip o' the earphones to ya, Crain!

A crate of virtual New York apples is being packaged for you here in time for the Holidays, hi. You know, just in case you folks run short of them there in WA.

As an East Coaster all my life, I'm surprised that WGY was your first NY State catch. WGY has to have the WORST 50,000 omni signal I ever monitored. Perhaps we live in that 'cancellation zone' so often referenced here, but their nighttime signal is terrible. It always has BEEN a puzzler, even back in the Sixties when we were kids and DXing near Kennedy Airport in Queens.

I'da thought that WABC, WFAN, WCBS, maybe WOR, WBBR and WQEW would be New York State 'pests' out by you.
Wrong again, Green.

Happy Holidays!

Not sure but perhaps WGY's cancellation issue is due to tower height and where the cancellation area is located. Similar situation with WSM in Nashville, they had to shorten their tower due to cancellation in Chattanooga and Atlanta. However, have listened to WGY back in the day after local WKBC signed off when it was on 810. WGY would boom in most evenings in NC...

Nice catch. crainbebo!

I'd say that's even a better accomplishment than hearing one of the big NYC stations because I'd think KGO would make it almost impossible.

I listened to the audio clip and could definitely hear their ID in the background behind KGO.

WABC - no chance due to KKOB, KTTH, CHQR and KATL.
WFAN - no chance due to CFFR, KTNN and others.
WCBS - no chance due to every 880 in the west, and KRVN.
WOR - no chance due to KIRO and Rebelde.
WBBR - no chance due to Vancouver.

WGY was the #1 choice for NY in WA. It has been logged in BC and OR before in the past 10 or so years. WFME-1560 is second, but Family Radio would require an echo of KKAA and them.

Congrats on the new state, Crainbebo! Your recent 2,000+ miles loggings are continued inspiration for us to keep trying for those hard-to-hear stations.
