Singer George Michael dies at 53

This really was his "Last Christmas". :(

Singer George Michael has died, Billboard has confirmed.

The English singer, songwriter, and record producer who rose to fame with the group Wham!, "passed away peacefully at home," the star's publicist told the BBC on Christmas Day.

"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.

"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."

Unbelievable. Prince and now him!? Can somebody just drop that Times Square ball, right around now? I'm sick of 2016 - celebrity deaths, political unrest, everything.
Rest in heavenly peace George. The world thanks you for putting out great music that will be remembered for years to come. Faith...Careless Whisper...Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, and on Christmas Day, Last Christmas.

Yes, George was a great singer and his music knew no genres, regardless of what he did in his private life. He'll be truly missed.

Playing himself on "Eli Stone" I thought he was quite a good actor.

"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is one of the best "real" AC songs. I still wonder what the other guy's contribution to that song was.

"Kissing a Fool" was also good. That's really my kind of music.

This is a huge passing. He is arguably one of the top 3 biggest male pop artists of the 80's and 90's with 10 #1 Billboard hits with Wham and solo.

And the other two of that top three are also deceased as well (Prince and Michael Jackson; none of them hit 60).

When I first saw this, I thought George was closer to 60. He was very young when Wham! was riding high on the charts (19-21 years old)

I remember when WHAM! first came to the U.S. they had to release their first couple of albums as
WHAM! UK because there was already a band from West Virginia that had been performing as WHAM!

Why is it "unbelievable" that drug users, with a very long history, die young? I would think it would be expected.
I was wondering how the ball drop would somehow put a stop to celebrity deaths. As long as we have celebrities among us, they are going to die. Yes, it is tragic. George Michael (like Whitney Houston before him) was only a few months older than me.

George Michael Died of ‘Natural Causes,’ British Coroner Says

Pop star George Michael died of “natural causes,” according to the Associated Press.

He had “heart disease and a fatty liver,” a British coroner found this time. Michael’s initial autopsy was “inconclusive.”

Darren Salter, the senior coroner for Oxfordshire, says a post-mortem discovered that the singer died of “dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver,” per the wire service.

Dilated cardiomyopathy is a condition in which the heart’s ability to pump blood is limited; myocarditis is inflammation of the heart muscle.
