Good AM DX Opportunity For Lower Lake Michigan Area

cyberdad and radioman148, and any other people in the Lower Lake Michigan Area, should try to tune in stations on 770 and 790 that are usually blocked by IBOC. It appears that the big signal in between has turned it off, however temporarily. Good opportunity to get WSGW 790 Daytime and WABC 770 Nighttime, and perhaps WEW 770 Daytime, in the right area where the signal is weaker and null out the big signal.

Thanks for the heads-up, SC. I didn't connect the dots correctly this morning, but I was hearing both WJR (760) and KXIC (800) a couple of hours after sunrise. I wa thinking "daytime skywave". Indeed that's a possibility, but if WBBM had its noisemaker turned off, that would have helped matters.

If I haven't gone into football overdose by tonight, I'll try to check out 770 and 790 as you suggest. On 770 I can usually null WBBM (IBOC and all), and get a respectable signal from WABC. 790 is much more difficult. It's usually a complete mess here ever since former "top-dweller", CKSO left the channel.

I will try for WABC tonight. Haven't heard it in years because of WBBM's noisemaker. I used to listen to WABC regularly in the 60s & 70s when they were a great listen. I have heard WSGW during the day on Lake Shore Drive. Doubt that I can hear it at my location.

I was able to check this out a couple of hours before sunrise this morning. Conditions were pretty much about normal. Not great, but not bad, either. WBBM's IBOC was off, and the results were pretty much as expected. WABC's signal on 770 was good, but with fading. 790 was a little quieter than I expected and nothing identifiable was able to emerge on top. I was hoping R. Reloj time pips might break through, but that's probably not going to happen with WBBM nulled.

One interesting development was that WJR was off. On 760, I heard two very weak signals mixing. I couldn't identify either one of them, but one seemed to vocal/acoustic guitar in Spanish.

Will WBBM's noisemaker be off permanently? I doubt it. Sister Station WSCR was trashing the 660 and 680 with their IBOC as usual.

We must have reminded them that the lBOC was off. This has happened before. Try not mentioning the call letters or the noisemaker name in the post. Too easy for lBiquity to search for those two terms. They apparently bird dog drop outs.

Either that or there's some sort of work going on at night (Or they're shutting it down night/early morning for some other reason). It was definitely off at around 4-4:30 AM this morning. But as said, WSCR had their buzz saw going.

I have noticed before that they have turned off their HD on weekends periodically.

It was off about an hour ago when I was in the car. One result: I snagged WJR for the first time in memory for the first time in recent memory (at least 10-15 years). Weak, but perfectly listenable.
