Sub channels, have we learned to like them or not?

How is it NOT stealing? Using passwords which belong to someone else ... a paying customer ... is the very definition of stealing.

Unless you have their permission.

Or, as it was in my case with my mother's Cox cable service, I paid the bill. I paid the bill, I set up the login, I had her permission, therefore it was not stealing, even though the account was in her name. Especially considering that Cox wasn't available in my apartment building (the owners refused to allow them in). I also had Cox's OK because by definition, I couldn't steal their service as it didn't exist where I lived. I had also been a Cox paying customer from the day they took over from Dimension Cable in 1995 until I moved into that apartment in 2010. I have DirecTV now, so it is no longer necessary. And if I want to switch to Cox where I live now, I can.

Ah, so you're stealing. Still looking for that elusive completely free, totally on the up-and-up way of seeing all my favorite teams' games without buying a cable or satellite subscription.

if you want a specific sport like MLB, NHL or NBA there are subscriptions that dont require a cable or satellite subscription. Use a streaming device. Heck last year I signed up for the FREE MLB MLB TV package via T-Mobile (yes it was truly free). Kept the account active on a $3 a month pre-paid plan and streamed it through my roku using my credentials.

But did you get your home-market team's games live? I have MLB.TV as well, paying full price, and I can't watch the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets until their games have been over for 90 minutes. When I subscribed to the NHL's online service, I couldn't watch Bruins or Rangers games for 48 hours after the games ended! That's why I ended my NHL subscription. I still subscribe to MLB because I enjoy baseball more than any other sport and will gladly watch a good game, no matter who's playing in it. That, for me, is worth $100 or so a season.

But the original assertion in this thread was that there is a totally FREE, above-board way -- no online subscriptions through the leagues, no cable subscriptions that you don't use for TV just so you can stream games on other devices , no $3-a-month mobile "plans" (although T-Mobile comes closest to "free," it only offers MLB at the gimmick rate), no using someone else's login information, just the cost of your Internet access -- to catch ALL of your favorite teams' games. Nobody has offered any proof that such a thing exists yet.

So getting back on topic of subchannels. I love them! The only thing I wish is that some media companies would have grabbed the "better" subs in my market and not have them relegated to a low power station that is off the air sometimes and other times has signal issues. I like Cozi and Laff and both are on a LP station

I like these networks but they become stale very quickly. They air the same shows over and over.
Buzzzr is a great example. When Minneapolis got Buzzr (about 5 months after the initial launch on FOX O&O's due to the Bounce contract) I was stoked. Within a month I was bored with it. I mean when you see the contestants on Press Your Luck and already know who wins or how many whammies there are going to be.

I definitely agree. WBBJ in Jackson, TN still only uses Me TV as filler for their CBS subchannel, and has made no effort to fix the problem. WJKT in Jackson only recently started carrying Laff, Grit, and Escape), so they probably won't pick up any more. Meanwhile WJJD-LD 27 now has 7 subchannels. They already had Antenna TV/MNTV, Doctor TV (Now changed to Get TV), Bounce, and Sonlife (Jimmy Swaggart), but now they have added Cozi and 2 infomercial channels that could potentially change to other subchannels. But they don't reach outside Jackson and aren't carried on cable.

I really enjoyed the DECADES Weekend Binge of Mission:Impossible this past weekend.

I have fond memories of sitting and watching that with my dad.
I could not have been more then five at the time.

Nothing is cooler to a five-year old boy than exploding tape recorders!

I help people in my area "cut the cord" by installing outdoor antennas.
I do a site analysis, free of charge, days or weeks before installing their
antennas. I show what is available, give them a list of channels they
should receive and also direct them to the internet to sites such as "Decades,"
"Me-TV," "Cozi Tv," "Antenna TV," etc, etc. In nearly three years, I've
not had one person change their mind with regard to OTA television.
I've had only one person that I know of, who was dissatisfied with OTA
television who then went to Dish. They continue to use the antenna
to watch the sub-channels not available on Dish. OVERWHELMINGLY, most
people love their sub-channels. I know I do............

Well I posted another tread which I thought was topical.......about which sub channels are not carred locally in your area on cable and satellite.....and why/how can that change. Seems the "site censors" considered it junk and trashed it. That's why I seldom come here any more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's pure crap (the way the censors treat me on this site), no matter how you look at it.

Here in the Northeast Ohio area, there has recently been a slight switch-up in some of the networks on our digital subchannels. Long story short, back in April, WEWS dropped Cozi from Channel 5.2 and replaced it with Grit, even though Grit is already shown on WUAB Channel 43.3. Cozi has since been moved to WEKA Channel 41.1, a low-power station in Canton, so it would probably be impossible for anyone with an antenna in my area (Medina County) to pick it up.

This thread on Radio Insight kind of explains this switch-up in a little more detail. Apparently there are plans in the works to do away with WUAB Channel 43 completely in the future and move the station's programming and MyNetworkTV programming to a digital subchannel of sister station WOIO Channel 19.

As for these networks' availability on cable, most of the diginets in Cleveland and Akron (Justice Network, Grit, Laff, Antenna TV, MeTV, Ohio Channel, Create, Bounce, Fusion, MHz Worldview, Movies! and GetTV) are available on Spectrum, but not all of them. Two in particular I would like to see Spectrum pick up are Heroes & Icons (WBNX Channel 55.4) and Escape (WQHS Channel 61.4). I do have a portable digital TV (kind of like a modern-day Watchman), but the antenna that came with it is kind of weak, especially in the country-like area I live in, so the reception of some local channels on that set can be spotty.

And as for the aforementioned low-power WEKA in Canton, it's a shame that station doesn't have a broader coverage area, especially given the networks that those subchannels broadcast. Same with low-power sister station WQDI Channel 20, also in Canton, and its subchannels. Not really crazy about Estrella TV, QVC, Sonlife, or the Liquidation Channel, but it would be interesting to see Comet, American Sports Network (especially since the occasional BGSU Falcons football, basketball and hockey game is shown on there), Decades, AMGTV, Buzzr (because GSN just doesn't show as many older game shows anymore), the Country Network and Tuff TV.

Fixed a few things plus added WPVI and WFMZ since you missed those.

I am about to lose Cozi, Movies! and Retro TV in Pittsburgh because WEPA, the local Class A station that carried them, has sold it's frequency in the spectrum auction and will be shutting down soon.

I lost Grit and GetTV earlier this year when Sinclair replaced them with their own channels.

27 recently added Decades in place of one of the infomercial channels. I wish that Charter would pick up Cozi and Decades at least, but since they're a lpw power station Charter is probably in no hurry to pick them up. They only recently added WNBJ-LD 39 even though they have been for over 2 years, and they still haven't added any of WJKT 16's subchannels.

I've wondered why WBBJ couldn't make a deal to at least carry Me TV full time on cable systems, but that has never happened and probably won't.
