Late Night Network Talk Shows and SNL

I have officially pulled ALL late night network talk shows and SNL from my DVR for their"LEFT" agenda, I'm tired of it , back with Johnny and Jay they stayed pretty much neutral, made jokes about both side, I was a long time fan of SNL ,but no more, I refuse to watch anything with Alec Baldwin in it including the new Match Game.

Not aware that ALL late night talk shows follow the same approach as SNL. That's quite a broad brush, and I think Fallon has been very fair in his presentation. Stephen Colbert has revived his Comedy Central character for his show, and as you may recall, that character was conservative. He was pretty tough with Chris Matthews last week, and he seems to have a good friendship with Bill O'Reilly. Keep in mind that a lot of conservatives don't approve of many things being promoted by the current president, and I don't expect things to remain as simple as they've been. Fox News was pretty tough on Sean Spicer today.

BigA is pretty clearly not a regular viewer of Colbert, either on Comedy Central or CBS.

"The Colbert Report" was an over-the-top parody to make people like Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, and James Inhofe - Republican politicians - look dumb. In the same way that someone's crazy uncle who thinks Obama is a muslim looks dumb. Yes, sometimes a Democrat would do something silly and get satirized by "The Colbert Report", but it was clearly intended to advance liberal politics.

Colbert's "The Late Show" has done everything possible to chase Trump supporters away. He was critical of Trump from the beginning. At one point this summer Colbert not-so-subtley implied Trump was a nazi. Every time they had "Cartoon Donald Trump" as a "guest", they made him look incompetent. According to research by the Hollywood Reporter in 2015, only one in six Colbert viewers identified as Republican, compared to roughly a third for Fallon and Kimmel. I'm betting it is less than 1 in 6 now.

I was never a big viewer of any of the network shows - I hated Leno's schtick and just thought Letterman was boring. I did regularly watch "The Colbert Report" for several years, and I wanted Colbert to do well on the "Late Show", but I gave up shortly after the political conventions.

I should say that I did not see Chris Matthews' appearance on Colbert this week. But I did see Bill O'Reilly twice and thought their relationship seemed cold at best.

I don't think anyone has to MAKE any of that group LOOK dumb. Their own words do that. But comedy is comedy. The goal is to make fun of powerful people. Most understand that and ignore it. That's the cost of being famous. Ask Justin Bieber or Charlie Sheen. Neither of them like the way they're portrayed either. The problem now is that kind of humor is now seen as anti-American. It wasn't seen that way when people attacked Richard Nixon. Saturday Night Live was born in the period just after Nixon's resignation, when attacking the government was pretty commonplace. Chevy Chase made a career of mocking President Ford's clumsiness. No one seemed to mind it then. Now it's an issue.

“The Daily Show,” Comedy Central’s news satire and talk show, typically has a politically liberal point of view. It’s most popular in cities and other more liberal-leaning areas along the coasts. Peak popularity is in San Francisco; it’s least popular in Alabama.

According to this New York Times link "The Daily Show" is big in the San Francisco TV Market.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is more popular in cities than in the surrounding countryside. It gained a reputation this past election cycle for being less politically minded than other late-night programming.

The worst violator is Seth Meyers, especially when he started doing his monologue from his desk.

As for me, I don't think SNL has been funnier in years, thanks to Alec, and Kate Mckinnon. Perhaps some Trumpers need more of a sense of humor. They will need it if Day 1 is any indication. (I fully expect this post to be deleted as it is political, but then again, so is the OP.)

I can appreciate humor directed at my party, candidates or politics. So long as it's funny.

In too many cases it's not. Too often it's just mean-spirited insane ranting.

And they call us liberals "precious little snowflakes?" Can't hack criticism of Fearless Leader?

That's the point I'm trying to make, I have been a big SNL fan since the beginning in 1975, I remember Fresno NBC didn't carry it the first 2 years, I had to use an outdoor Ant. pointed at Bakersfield to watch it, I follow it during it's up times and down times, I know it's normal to make jokes of current administration and candidates of BOTH sides, and SNL spun tons of talented people over the years, It's just recently Weekend Update is to much like Seth Meyers ranting, it's to over board, be maybe things will mellow out and I'll watch it again.

Jimmy Fallon would be the most neutral of all Late night talk shows and I'll still watch him, but the rest Conan, Kimmel, Seth and Steve, NO

i think OP might be a Trump supporter.

anyway, if you get easily offend at Late Night TV Shows cause they made fun of a republican politician. then, you should not be watching it at all. there's other stuff on late night TV, there's reruns of shows that air that can be watched.

I think they want a late night host who will just rehash talking points

Like Roseanne Roseannadanna says NEVERMIND.

"I'll go back to postings on my game sites, my local radio board, and Radio and TV topics not involving politics.

For the most part, the late night talk hosts are equal opportunity offenders, making jokes about both Democrats and Republicans. They used to savage Bill Clinton, mostly for his inability to keep "it" in his pants. Yes - it's clear that Colbert in particular does not like Trump, but there were more than a few Hillary put-downs during the campaign season too.

Well now a local Fox O&O host from Philadelphia is suspended for doing a rant on Donald Trump's cabinet member. Wow Mike Jerrick is going to have to deal more than just a suspension from his supervisors over "vulgar comments" at Fox 29 Philadelphia but now having a feud with the president's cabinet.

I wondered if that was why he hadn't been on recently. Now I gotta check the links to see what FINALLY got him in enough trouble to get replaced, if only temporarily.

I just watched the clip and it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I think he was punished because of him being on FOX and saying it, more than the accidently swearing. If they hadn't punished him, I would have thought he had edited himself. They were talking over him, so you had to pay rapt attention to catch it. This seems more about getting attention at the beginning of sweeps, for his return, more than anything.

Late night talk shows and SNL have always gone for topical humor. They are not making this stuff up about Trump it's things that he is actually doing and saying. Don't blame the messenger.

I watched the clip and I happen to agree on Jerrick on the rant. But then again even though its a different division of FOX its the O&O division. The general pubic would judge him for his politics even though this is not the National Fox News though. However I don't know myself if Mike Jerrick would be put in the same microscope as NBC host Megyn Kelly. But feuding with Trump is pretty risky though for both Fox News and Fox O&O due to its demographics. Its way too easy to spark a reaction from the president and his people though especially if its the one that attracts the voters of the president.
