The full line-up of affected channels is: Discovery Channel, TLC, Eurosport 1, Eurosport 2, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, DMAX, Discovery Turbo, Discovery Shed, Discovery Science, Discovery History and Home & Health.
Sky, Discovery agree carriage deal
Although not quite taking it to the 11th hour, with news emerging mid-evening UK time, pay-TV platform Sky and multi-channel programmer Discovery have agreed a carriage deal which means Discovery’s portfolio of 12 channels will continue to be available on Sky and Discovery Channel will continue to be available on NOW TV in the UK after January 31st 2017.
Susanna Dinnage, Managing Director, Discovery Networks UK, said: “We want to thank our millions of viewers and fans for their overwhelming support over the last few days. We have been humbled by the strength of the passion people feel for all our brands, including Discovery Channel, Eurosport, TLC, Animal Planet and Investigation Discovery.”
“We have reached a new agreement that guarantees Sky’s customers access to Discovery’s wide range of channels and programmes for years to come. Our fans’ voices were heard loud and clear. They want choice and great TV and I cannot stress how much we love them for their support.”
The agreement also includes Discovery’s four pay-TV channels in Germany: Discovery Channel, Eurosport 1 HD, Eurosport 2 HD and Eurosport 360 HD.
They just pulled all Univision and UniMas affiliates out of Charter, EVEN THE ENTRAVISION AND NON-O&O ONES! This means that Univision and Entravision is in their first ever dispute with each other, one that Entravision doesn't want to be in, as their contract is still going. WVEA-TV just got pulled from Bright House, despite being owned by Entravision. This is a problem, when Univision said all of it's stations will go down, it said ALL OF THEM, even the ones it doesn't own and the ones with LMAs.
We have made arrangements with Univision Communications Inc. for it to represent us in retransmission negotiations on behalf of the Station, which is an affiliate of the Univision or UniMas network... Our representatives at Univision will contact your corporate office to discuss the terms of retransmission consent for the Station.
KUNW-CD has been dropped from Charter in Yakima. Not good! Yakima is 45% Hispanic. This is a Sinclair owned station. KIMA (CBS)/KIMA-DT2 (CW) still on, no blackout. But this isn't Sinclair vs. Charter.
Prepare for a dispute with Univision and Sinclair, as Sinclair saw that Univision took one of their stations down against Sinclair's will. I think the Charter merger was a bad move for them as it messed up things for Univision, Entravision, and Sinclair.
Univision Back On Charter Cable Systems After Court Ruling In Carriage Dispute
Just over a day after the Spanish-language network went dark on Charter over a carriage dispute, Univision is coming back on for cable subscribers — for now. “Today, the Supreme Court for the State of New York granted Charter a temporary restraining order, meaning that Univision programming will be returned to our customers,” a Charter Communications spokesperson said Thursday.
“A judge who was temporarily assigned to our case today said that she planned to issue an order that Univision’s networks and stations had to be restored on Charter Spectrum for 7 days,” said Univision in a cautioning statement of its own of the new normal with the country’s second-biggest cable company. “This order only lasts until February 9, when the judge permanently assigned to the litigation is back in court.”
Northwest Broadcasting, Cable One Reach Carriage Deal
Cable One said it has reached a retransmission consent agreement with Northwest Broadcasting, ending a month-long blackout.
Northwest originally pulled the signal of its stations in in Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Lewiston, Idaho and Clarksdale, Winona, Yazoo, Grenada and Cleveland, Miss., on Jan. 1.
"We're pleased to be able to restore these channels to our customers and we appreciate their patience and loyalty while we worked to reach a fair agreement,” Cable One Vice President John Gosch said in a statement. “Our goal is to provide our customers and their families with quality TV programming at a reasonable price. We believe we’ve accomplished that goal in this negotiation.”
Sinclair, Frontier End Blackout
Frontier subscribers are once again able to watch Sinclair-owned TV stations on their pay-TV platform.
The station group Thursday announced that it reached a carriage deal with Frontier Communications, which dropped Sinclair’s stations in Seattle and Portland, Ore., as well as Tennis Channel, in January over retransmission consent fees.
The agreement also restores stations in several markets where Frontier offers subscription video services, Sinclair said.
Dish Signs Deal With Bonten; Blackout Ends
Dish announced tonight that it has signed a new carriage agreement with Bonten Media, ending a 25-day blackout.
Bonten’s 12 network affiliates had been off Dish since January 17 when the old carriage pact expired.
The companies were fighting over how much Dish should pay to carry Bonten’s stations.
Dish did not disclose the terms of the new agreement.

Wow Los Angeles still has a contract issue with the Dodgers on TV because of Sportsnet LA.

Viacom's deal with Hulu has expired.
We've seen contract problems like this before, but this appears to be slightly different, as Variety reports Viacom's CEO Bob Bakish stated during a recent conference call that the company will take its focus away from partnerships with SVOD providers to deal more directly with streaming bundle services from places like Sling TV and DirecTV Now, which is closer to how things already work with cable and satellite companies. It's a growing trend, with fewer big money syndication deals happening on linear TV, which has impacted the amount of money SVOD services are offering for exclusive rights to shows. Shows like South Park and Key & Peele have exclusive one-off contracts, so they'll stay on Hulu, but The Daily Show isn't likely to.
In the time since Trevor Noah took over for Jon Stewart, The Daily Show has suffered a fairly dramatic and consistent audience decline, but Comedy Central has seen its overall audience rise in terms of digital platforms. So Viacom definitely isn't interested in keeping streaming deals out of the running altogether, but a more defined approach will likely be used going forward. And, in the meantime, the network has no trouble promoting the fact that it's the easiest place to go to watch new episodes.
