Wkem-lp 98.3

For about the past couple of weeks, i have noticed a low power FM Station at 98.3 FM ID's as WKEM-LP "Kiss 98.3" , According to the LPFMdatabase, it's registered to equality Broadcasting network and it's current format seems to be R&B with a a slight Rhythmic top 40 lean to it (Al green, into Steve miller band, into 3 back to back rihanna songs).

I don't seem to find any additional info, no website, no social media.

haven't even heard any DJ's.

Not sure how long this has been on the air, but the station sounds really good, i only noticed it recently thanks to a new vehicle i just bought.

Heard mostly classic R&B tunes today, with a few currents. The station has a great sound quality. The tower is located near the intersection of Hunter Loop and Old Cahaba Road, by the railroad tracks. It's very tall for a LPFM radio broadcast.

I live 3 blocks from old cahaba road, travel hunter loop just about every day, i never noticed the tower.

though according to FCC records, it's using the small tower located at WCOV's studio, with main studios out in east montgomery.

Old school! They new. Maybe it doesn't matter if they are using an antenna strapped to the chimney of a two story house this early in the game. LPFM is turning out to be more expensive than the CP holders expected. Give em a little time to get up to commercial standards. Some of them will pan out in the end, not many, but some...

When was the last time you heard an EAS test followed by the DJ saying something like, "that was nice and annoying, let's start "song" over?

Technically the majority of what's on my site, history wise, is heresay, since it's all based on third party anonymous submissions.

I'm more concerned with takedown requests, if which I've received a few over the years. Nothing serious but frustrating nonetheless.

I filed a non-payment small claims suit (approx $1500) against one of those Mobile TV lawyers once. He paid without going to court.
I filed a very valid non-payment suit (approx $4000) against the father in law of a federal judge. I got beat up so bad that I can't disclose his name and I'm no longer interested in suing anyone. I hindsight, I should have taken that case to the media and destroyed the judge's carreer instead of caving in to his intimidation.

It's much easier to go back to work than put effort into lawsuits.

Understood. Yep, this guy doesn't want facts about what he does made public. He takes "Equality" to a whole new level! Everyone's equal **********************.

Please stop! Any further posts about this person will be deleted.

I should like to point out, and hopefully this isn't running afoul of anything, that I was also contacted and asked to remove the information from my website. After discussing it with "counsel" it was determined I should leave it be although re-write it to make it clear these were unfounded allegations and nothing more.

I've reached out to the person who contacted me from Equality Broadcasting as well as who I believe the engineer is and am hoping to get both sides of the story. Not so much for the record but for my own personal curiosity.

I would urge everyone to be careful. Even when you see something posted on the "official" website that might not be the final step. I know of a CP that was in query (was waiting for confirmation from another party on a issue before final approval). The CP did not match what was on the website, but they had official documentation to prove they were in compliance.

With the internet, sometimes things are not what they seem.

So you're saying the FCC website can't be trusted? If not, who can? I figure this whole thing could be settled if the ones accused of misdeeds would step up and straighten things out instead of hiding behind legal threats and demands to redact publicly available information.

If I'm accused of wrongdoing I want to get my side of the story out. Right now I'm only hearing one side of things. I've spent so much of my life active in political discussion forums I've become slightly allergic to not getting the full story. Makes watching the evening news a real hoot.

The site is accurate, but sometimes items or changes are pending. Sometimes it just isn't that simple as a database listing. Sometimes proposed changes could take months or years.

There are several pending applications on the Bi weekly issued list that are listed as a Hold with no further explanation.

The license process can be very complicated at times. I still learn something new all the time.

Other than to say that there are no additional filings of any kind pending for this station in this or any other matter, I'll do as asked and not comment further. There are no "future surprises" that can possibly pop-up at any time in the near future. Everything is exactly as it appears and is final.

I had to take an exam at Faulkner University about a month or two ago, and I finally got a chance to tune into this station. Static-y from listening in my car, but no surprise considering where I was in Montgomery. I weirdly liked the 'robotic' presentation.

That robotic voice you hear is Mr. Benny Newton, the owner. His radio stations covers the west part of Montgomery very well. The east side has a hard time getting him.

Now explain this one to me. Why did WKEM move to 98.5 FM? The coverage area hasn't changed. ...And the format is still the same old Urban/Classics mix, they've been doing for a while now. Something doesn't seem right with this move. Just my two cents.

P.S. I must say that WFXO Sylacauga had a great signal today in Prattville, especially on the east side. The music was a wonderful variety of Classic Hits, like one hears on WYEA and WRFS. The owner(s) are very professional in what they do. Kudos to them.

The most common cause of an LPFT changing frequency is an interference issue with a a station that has higher priority. This could be due to an upgrade or move by another station, or general interference complaints.
