For the record, Adamle spent 3 years playing football at Northwestern, then 6 years as a backup running back and kick returner in the NFL, with the Chiefs, Jets, and Bears. He joined NBC after retiring from the Bears after the 1976 season, then moved on to Channel 7 in the '80s, then 5.
He's 67 now, and retired from football at age 27. He was never a full-time player in the NFL. Some of his problems can probably be attributed to his football career, but these things usually pop up much earlier in an ex-player's life. Don't want to make light of it, and I hope he is able to have this investigated further. It might shed some light on other players' concussion issues as well.
