Josh Elliott out at CBS News

Three days after CBS News got blindsided when Josh Elliott announced on air that he was leaving the CBSN anchor desk, and issued a statement saying Elliott “is going to be taking field assignments and reporting longform pieces as well” across various platforms, CBS News says Elliott is out.

The decision to part company with Elliott was made over the weekend by CBS News President David Rhodes, according to an insider.

“CBS News and Josh Elliott are parting ways. Josh will no longer be reporting for CBS News,” the news division said today in its statement. “We are grateful for his contributions over the last year, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”

On Friday, a CBS News insider had said Elliott’s on-air announcement did not signal an imminent exit from the news division – though it certainly quacked like a guy who was trying to get ahead of the narrative. Elliott on Friday told viewers it was his last day in the daytime anchor chair at CBSN, then added, “although, knowing how things work around here, I may see you again on Monday morning.”

Informed source says Elliott made that comment after being informed he was leaving the anchor chair but would be given the opportunity to do other things, and that people “were happy to have him do some reporting.” CBS News did not plan to make any announcement about the change, and certainly had not approved Elliott announcing his anchor-exit on air, – which, where we come from, is known as a “red flag.”

Josh burns bridges pretty fast the only place he could go to would be FOX Sports but I doubt they hire Josh because he burns bridges.

Maybe he and Keith Olbermann should partner up as demolition experts. Bridges, careers, whatever needs to be blown up -- they're the experts. :D

Josh Elliott has gone from being a hot property to... something. Will be interesting to see where he shows up next.

Yeah, what he did was very Olbermann-like. Quite an astute comparison, Keith.

He certainly did himself no favors. Either he was having a really bad week, or he genuinely believes he has such talent that CBS would beg him to stay or another employer would look beyond his obvious drama queen nature.

The latter two of the three observations are certainly not true, so he should look for a job selling insurance or another gig that will help him pay the rent......in Buffalo or another small to medium size city. He won't be able to afford living in NYC.
