WSVM off air?

I thought it was in Valdese. Granite Falls has WYCV at 900.

Anyway, I'll check on this station in about a month when I go to the mountains. Not that I will get answers, but I have a button for 1490.
 
He is licensed to Valdese. It was off the air when I drove through there in April. No correspondence with the FCC. Stream seems to be down. I think it may be gone.

The town of Valdese owns the property and was planning on expanding the adjacent town owned cemetery. That may be the reason he is off...

It now appears that when WSVM returns to the air, it will have a companion translator on 96.5 atop High Peak Mountain. I saw the application last week to move it from Brevard.

This is Max. I am the new manager of WSVM. Yes, you are correct, we will be on 96.5 fm momentarily. We look forward to serving Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba county with radio like they've never had. Going to be a great station! Stay tuned!

Jolly said he was serving as a DJ at an event on Lake James when Patterson approached him with positive feedback about the set of music Jolly was playing.

“(Patterson) said, ‘Why don’t we put this on the air somewhere?’” Jolly said. “I said, ‘Because we need a radio station.’ (Patterson) said, ‘Find us a radio station.’ So, we found us a radio station.

“I am extremely excited and I am blessed to have this opportunity Vance and the Lord have given me. I think it’s going to be great. This is going to be radio unlike anybody’s ever heard up here before. … We want to do a radio station where you don’t have to change it. We change it for you (with a classic hits mix).”

Dreamers ... gotta love 'em. At least they only paid $9,000 for the station. They probably won't stream, which is too bad because I'd love to hear just what kind of music mix a small-town event DJ and his biggest fan puts on the air!
 
The first thing the people at the Valdese station need to do is get rid of the WSVM call letters. Those call letters are poison, due to the bad reputation the station has had under those call letters going back several years. Then they need to get a programming service and get rid of the amateurish "new sound", put some personality in the station and quit being a "juke box". Since the life blood of a radio station is it's advertising base, change the call letters to something that reflects the advertiser .The call letters that come to mind are WVAP (Where Valley Advertising Pays") Those call letters are available. That way the call letters not only tie to the advertising base but to the term "valley" since that area is referred to as the "Catawba Valley". By referring to the "Catawba Valley" it will open the advertising base to more than just Valdese, where there are very few potential advertisers. Don't mention Valdese except for the legal ID. Drop the news and weather, that's so 1960 ish. People are not going to tune to radio to get news and weather. There are so many other ways to get news & weather these days such as cell phones, tablets and more.
 
Call it the "Ted Mack" station since it sounds like the amateur hour.

Finally got around to checking it out. It most definitely is not professionally programmed. An amateur can not learn how to program a radio station by listening to other radio stations.

There are no "amateurs" and No one wants to be like Charlotte radio. The word bankrupt comes to mind. The "other stations" have killed terrestrial radio. Thanks for opining but we're doing just fine.

I listened on line and really enjoy the station, very enjoyable mix of music. I am in Charlotte and very happy you do not sound like Charlotte Radio. keep up the good work pros.
