New Longview Translators

I've noticed Longview has some new translators:

97.1 K246CB, rebroadcasting Christian talk KHCJ-FM 91.9 Bullard. Interestingly this is broadcasting from the old KLUE tower in south Longview.
99.9 K260CE rebroadcasting sports-talk KFRO-AM 1370 from a tower near East Mountain.
103.7 K279CI rebroadcasting country KYKX-FM 105.7 also from a tower near East Mountain.

I think its strange K279CI is rebroadcasting KYKX, they may still be testing it. KKUS 104.1 would be a better choice. And since KFRO-AM is about to be sold will the translator go with it?

Longview is outside of KKUS's citygrade signal contour. Alpha can't own the translator and relay KKUS.

Could any of Alpha's other stations be used instead? Or did Alpha get these translators up and running to eventually move or sell?

I suspect the intent with 103.7 is to rebroadcast an HD multicast channel of 105.7, though I suppose it could be moved to relay another station in a nearby market, like Shreveport. I'm pretty sure the AM revitalization window is closed, but I'd have to think the FCC would grant moves if the applicants proved such moves were in the public interest. Persuading the FCC usually isn't too difficult.

I may be wrong, but I think they intend to rebroadcast HD sub channels on them (which may be rebroadcasts of their current stations).

I bet KKUS or Fox Sports will wind up on KYKX's HD 2 and 3 channels, but it would be interesting if one of their Shreveport stations also wound up on them.

99.9 and 103.7 seem to be on the air. 103.7 appears to be rebroadcasting KYKX. 99.9 is rebroadcasting KFRO-AM and sounds dreadful. I imagine that will be temporary since the sale of KFRO-AM has been approved by the FCC.

It would be a good idea to simulcast KOYE via KYKX HD2 or HD3 on one of translators to improve Longview coverage and help them compete against KAPW.

Any updates on "The Voice of Longview"?

No comment on the actual former "Voice", but the FM version in Gilmer and KLJT HD in Jacksonville have consummated the license transfer from Dudley Waller to Mrs. Waller, effective 17 March 2017, or a week ago today (as of this post). This step precludes, of course, any potential sale of the two to another steward.

Suspiciously, the same does not hold true for the A in Bullard or the Pittsburg C2. Nothing further has been filed for KZXM or KMPA other than the request for extension on the STA for the two, also dated 17 March 2017. Something tells me that when all is said and done, 102.3 & 95.3 will be sold to an independent 3rd party, while the former "Kompa" pair are ultimately purchased by Bill Waller.

That last part, of course, is nothing more than rampant speculation on my part.

For reasons I won't go into on a public forum, I very seriously doubt that Bill Waller will be the ultimate owner of any of these stations. Bill is a good friend of mine, but the family situation is very tenuous. After Dudley passed away, the family business has been in a free fall. It's really quite sad. Hopefully new and energetic blood will take over the stations. We'll see, but it may not be any time soon.
