Former KSTW Sports Director Rod Simons passes away

Don't forget ... he briefly did sports on KOMO 1000 middays when they launched in 2002.

He was great at KSTW, wish he'd been able to stay in market after they closed up shop.

Wait...

Per this article (http://www.kiro7.com/news/local/rod-simons-beloved-seattle-sportscaster-dies-at-age-56/495955305) Rod Simons came to KSTW to anchor the weekend news with Kenny Mayne?!?!

They were both news anchors at one point... before they became known for sports?

I didn't know that.... Also, they're awfully stiff in this promo: https://youtu.be/-LJ216zyerI

Remember, both were still young back then. Rod actually lasted long enough to report for KSTW as a brief CBS affiliate in the mid-90's. The lineup during those CBS years at KSTW was anchors Don Porter and Monica Gayle (who moved to a long career at Fox Detroit), Rod on sports, and Neal Barton weather.

Rod was at KSTW until the end of their news programming...

And Monica Gayle's co-anchor was Dale Schornack. I can't remember if Porter moved to weekends or if he was turfed only to be rehired when CBS (and all the talent) went away.
