The Programming Disputes Thread

France: TF1 wants IPTV carriage fees

French commercial media group TF1 has threatened to withdraw from the platforms of some French IPTV operators. Régis Ravanas, head of advertising and diversification at TF1, said the group is looking to raise its revenues by making IPTV operators like Free, Orange and SFR pay to carry its DTT channels (TF1, TMC and NT1). If no agreement can be reached, TF1 could pull its content from the platforms.

“In Belgium, our feed is paid for by Orange and Altice,” Ravanas remarked, adding TF1 is determined to obtain a better share of value in exchange for its premium offering. Talks have been ongoing but operators aren’t welcoming the idea of paying to host the channels. Orange said in a statement that it “doesn’t plan to pay for distributing a Free DTT channel, but is working with TF1 to create new additional and value-creating services for the profit of both groups.”

Hearst Television has a contract Dispute with Dish Network and blackouts could happen on March 1st. This affects Sacramento and Boston and Monterey.
KCRA Sacramento has released a statement on Dish Network's Contract Dispute with Hearst Television.

Update Dish and Hearst called for a 48 hour extension for a deal to go through.

Charter to Drop Chiller Channel

Charter has notified subscribers that it will drop both the Chiller channel and Esquire Network on April 25. Both channels are owned by NBC.

The decision to drop Esquire is no surprise; NBC has already announced that it plans to close Esquire later this year and relaunch the channel as an online service only.

But the loss of carriage on Charter, the nation’s third largest pay TV service, could make NBC re-evaluate Chiller’s future as well. Dish, the fourth largest pay TV service, dropped the horror-theme channel earlier this month. (Combined, Dish and Charter have roughly 30 million subscribers.)

Comcast, which owns NBC, also does not carry Chiller. However, DIRECTV and AT&T, which combined make up the nation’s largest pay TV service, does carry Chiller.

So that's two channels Charter has dumped from basic cable in the past several months. First NWCN shut down, and now Esquire. Charter has done NOTHING to channel 50 since January 6th.

WHAG-TV Hagerstown , MD is off Franklin County, PA's Comcast Cable lineup.

This is not a dispute per se, they're dropping it because it's out of market.

[WHAG has] been informed by Comcast that on or about March 15, 2017 Comcast will discontinue carriage of WHAG-TV on its system in Franklin County, Pennsylvania,” the station wrote on its website. “Please be assured that Comcast is not removing WHAG-TV from its Franklin County system because of any dispute between Comcast and Nexstar regarding Comcast’s carriage of WHAG-TV. Rather, Franklin County is outside of WHAG-TV’s home market of Washington, DC and Comcast has informed us that effective in March it will no longer carry WHAG-TV out of market.”

It actually does carry Chiller, but I didn't know what channel it's on until I looked it up today (channel 125). In my area, Esquire is on channel 64 and will likely add to the number of blank one or two digit channels (2, 7, 57, 62, and 77 are blank here)

I meant what city are you in?
