Sacramento FM changes

Lots going on, it looks like.

* A 250-watt translator licensed to Walltown was dismissed because their application did not include the proper study to make sure the pattern of KHTK wasn't compromised:

Not sure who "Centro Christiano De Vida Eterna" is but I have my doubts as to whether it was actually constructed.

* KVMR's 104.7 translator move to Woodland was met with an informal objection from Edgewater Broadcasting. I think most folks here know this, but I'm involved in that one. We essentially gave up. Not worth the cost to fight others with deeper pockets. So 104.7 is now a relay of AM 890 and covers Sacramento very well. In a filing yesterday, Edgewater sold that license to Lotus.

* The new CBS/Entercom group plans to divest themselves of KSFM and KYMX. They filed to move them into a trust. Seems like they need to do something with one more.

* EMF filed to move their 98.9 signal on White Rock to 99.1 and aim it a bit further South. Could this mean they're going to try to sync it with the 99.1 on Sutter Buttes to get better market coverage? Time will tell on that one.

* It's already been mentioned here, but we have KJAY on 98.1 now.

You sure about KYMX and KSFM? As far as I could tell from filings, looks like the put pretty much everything in the trustee.

Usually when these things happen they go to a trust until they find a buyer and/or appropriate trading partner, right? I figured that's what would happen here.

Sorry Dave, I think I mis-understood what you said. But you're right. I was going by CDBS searches for the individual stations, and only KSFM and KYMX show form 314's. However, each request has other stations named. So yeah. It looks like they've left all options open.

104.7 is a solid translator! I'm impressed with the coverage from the KCRA tower downtown. Sorry to hear of the outcome re: KVMR. Is/was the directional null toward Woodland to protect KVMR's (proposed) translator from K284CM?

KSFM isn't a surprise, but I thought they would keep KYMX. 96.1 gets good numbers, is a heritage AC station and has a great signal. Why they would keep 94.7 over 96.1 is beyond me.

Yeah, the null was to protect our translator, which had already gone on the air back in October. I didn't think the two stations could realistically co-exist, and when K284CM came on the air my suspicions were realized. Meanwhile, Edgewater filed a formal objection to our license application. The original, response, etc. are here:

Whether we could have fought through it and prevailed, I don't know. But rather than spend the $$ for a questionable outcome that would result in minimal coverage anyway due to the interference it made sense for us to just have the permit cancelled. We're going to try to move it to Berryessa Peak and change the frequency to 93.9, as you can see in an application filed last week. That won't help Sacramento, but it will give us some coverage we didn't have previously.

My original statement was incorrect, as pointed out by Jammer Dave. I had just looked at which stations had filings posted in CDBS. If you look at the actual form 314 filings, however, they name a number of stations on each filing. For example, the one for KYMX lists not only KYMX but also KHTK, KZZO, and KNCI. Plus stations in San Francisco, Boston, and Seattle. So exactly what might happen is still not clear.

Maybe you should make calvary chapel an offer for the 95.5 translator at elverta. Nobody maintains it. I at least knock the cobwebs off once in awhile.

That one's probably not an option. Because it's outside of our primary contour I'd have to pick up 89.5 FM off-air. That would be next-to-impossible with 89.3's HD carriers co-located at that site. Maybe with some kind of local phase-cancellation, a site move, or other creative solution. But it would surely be a challenge.

Not likely. The channel is established in the FCC table of allocations and can be re-granted in the next round of auctions (if not sooner with a one-time auction). Since translators would have to move off the channel once a grant was made, nobody would want one that might be gone in a year or two.
 
I thought iHeartMedia was about to flip one of their stations to CHR in the wake of the KDND license hearing, until Entercom decided to turn in the license to the FCC.
