Good Day NY

What was the reasons for WNYW to launch the morning news program in August 1988? And did they think it would be successful vs CBS, NBC and ABC in the 7-9am slot.

Yes and to provide local morning news in timeslots that the other stations couldn't. It worked and its why WSVN added local morning news of its own from 7-9am when it became FOX in 1989. The rest, as they say, is history. 7-9am morning news is now common in most markets of the country thanks to the idea and the success of 7-9am morning news from WNYW and add WSVN as the bonus too.

I remember that, they removed all the morning cartoons from 6-9am for GDNY. I'm surprised WNYW never did it sooner.
